March 6, 20233 yr I'm going to build my new PC and the current one have a P3Dv4.5hf3 which I have "rised" for years with all it's add-on and tweaks. If there is any possibility to prevent do it all over again? The system itself won't carry, current PC is still on win7, that won't have chance to work on new hardware anyway. In the past I have carried FS9 from XP to Win7, with all kinds of registry export/import, but still some add-ons have to be reinstalled and problems here and there..... When I try to switch to win10 on my current PC, I tried but most add-ons won't work well without have to reinstall them one by one, that's one of the main reason I stucked on win7 for now. I probably will do a fresh install on P3Dv5 then.Actually it's the main reason I want a new PC and system.... but that actually makes me more want simply carrry old v4 into new PC rather than fresh install and "rise" both version.... Any tool/tips to do that?
March 6, 20233 yr I am in same situation as you, but I am going to install it from scratch unfortunately. Because, well, too big list of add-on's.

Any tool/tips to do that? I’ll be doing the same in the next few months replicating my v5.3HF2 install on a new computer. I’m afraid there’s no quick solution. You’ll need to reinstall all your addons again. One thing you could do is make a full disk backup of your existing install and then copy over some scenery folders from the old one where your preferences are stored. This is how it works for ORBX airports. That saves having to go online to ORBX and setting them manually. You don’t make it clear if your new v5 install will replace your v4 one. I assume it will since there’s no real point having both. Ray (Cheshire, England). However, if you added liveries, you can copy them (and the updated aircraft.cfg) from the old to the new installation. This may save a bit of time. You may do something similar with freeware addon sceneries and anything added via addon.xml. March 6, 20233 yr Author I see, thanks guys, I'm thinking keep both v4 and v5 but yeah, I don't know if it's really needed, I think most of my add-on would work fine in v5. I still got FS9 on my system but haven't fired up for like years after Rotate MD11 came out and finally relief all my 32bit fleet.... but it might be kinda like that.... It seems XP is a much more portable platform, which I like. (Actually why ANY software would tried to be not portable anyway...)
March 6, 20233 yr Moderator @C2615, I kept v4 for a few months after installing v5 but the performance was so much better with v5 there was no need to keep v4. I have one aircraft - Vertx DA62 - that requires v4 to exist before it will install. But a couple of changes to the Registry got around that. I couldn’t cope with multiple sims installed. I still have v3.4 purely for Concorde. When the FSL 64-but version is released v5 will be my only sim. Ray (Cheshire, England). March 6, 20233 yr If you carry over files and registries from the old system to the new one, there is a risk that some things won't work properly (especially as you switch to a different OS) and that you will experience crashes or other instabilities. Trying to identify the problem will be a headache, and you may realize that it would have been better to do a fresh install of P3D and add-ons in the first place. In order to avoid this situation, my sincere recommendation is that you do a fresh install now! It may require some work and time on your side, but it may save more potential hours of troubleshooting and frustration later. Edited March 6, 20233 yr by Afterburner
March 6, 20233 yr It is possible to do this and keep your add-ons (I've done it before), but it's a major pain. The problem is that different add-ons install in different ways, so it depends what you have. In theory, for add-on.xml add-ons, you can just copy everything into the right places and restore the config files and it should work. But it doesn't always because sometimes add-ons have keys in the registry etc. Scenery is usually the easiest, aircraft can be more of a pain. I agree with the advice to do a fresh install. St Maartens I think it was. When I launched P3D and located to that airport all my available RAM was consumed and the sim eventually crashed. A clever way to foil pirates. March 6, 20233 yr It's pretty much necessary to do a full ground-up rebuild, as the many add-ons that put license key and config data into the registry need the installer run to do that. I always make/keep a backup of my old install, and once I've re-installed add-ons anew from the installer, I overwrite the folder with the old one that has all my ADE tweaks, GSX configs etc. I keep that backup drive with the old config around for a good while, too, as it's easy to miss moving something over. March 12, 20233 yr Author Just got my new PC running and took me 2 days to make basic things works, and it only took me less than half a day to simply start XP11 and reactivate some payware... everything just works fine, most of the time I took was on external software like RXP (Garmin Trainer mainly), ASXP(nice timing for new beta) and sort out display settings (I used to use some fancy tweak lua to get a little bit more performance, but now after some trial and error I just ditch it and max out everthing...) All other settings, controls, aircraft setting etc etc just works out of old box.... It really makes think man, do I really need install P3D and all it's add-ons? why can't we have all software just like Xplane.... Well, I think I still have to, there are still some aircraft that can only be found in P3D ecosystem, for now...
