At times, difficult to distinguish from reality...

Recommended Posts

I also am amazed how close to reality XP12 can manage.  I have GlobalForests V2, and SimHeaven Europe.  For the UK I use ARC@ for the Ortho scenery at ZL17, with ZL18 around airports.  The ARC@ ortho colours are spot on to this video.

Watching the video below I am struck how close XP12 gets to the lighting, colours and clouds - obviously not an exact match, but impressive.

that and a lack of addons.

You say so many funny things. This one almost sounds as if you think publicly haranguing LR is actually encouraging folks to buy XP and therefore encouraging 3rd parties to make addons. So funny.

So Is LR moving away from the major point releases (12.x) and going with more often incremental 12.0x releases?

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

Move Fast and Fix Things (Hopefully)

Since we shipped X-Plane 12.00, we’ve been aiming for a fast tempo for updates and patches; more frequent, smaller patches so we can get key bug fixes to the entire community quickly. X-Plane 11 had one or two updates a year, and each update would take three months in beta because it was crammed to the gills with features. We’re targeting less than a month with these patches.

Here’s what we have shipped so far:

12.01 – lots and lots of bug fixes, new weather datarefs, and new OBJ features to help aircraft authors move to X-Plane 12.

12.02 – fixed memory leaks.

12.03 – scenery fixes, approach light fixes, and library elements to unlock the X-Plane Scenery Gateway

12.04 – in beta now! New plugin APIs (dataref introspection, sound APIs, weather APIs), weather fixes.

If there’s a theme here, it’s sanding down the rough edges of 12.0 and making sure third parties can create add-ons for v12.

I would prefer if they removed a few big visual bugs that destroy immersion in an otherwise often convincing virtual xplane world, I'd prefer real quality over mere "potential" quality after all this time.

It looks like it’s coming along nicely. I’m just waiting on the scenery update.

I would prefer it too, but they hardly 'destroy' immersion.

Something like ORBX GLOBAL will do just fine if the other solution is impossible.

I'd prefer something like OrbX TrueEarth personally, instead of Global 🙂

Of course but you already know the problem. No more time to wait. Need too much time to cover the whole world and space on the ssd.ORBX Global is already 10 times better than XP12 by default.I think fairly quick to build and taking up little space on the SSD.With the exceptional light engine of XP12 the rendering will undoubtedly be incredible.

I too am looking forward to Orbx TrueEarth, but in the meantime AutoOrtho will do for global ortho, with Ortho4XP tiles in those areas I fly regularly.
