JustSim to release Oslo then exit P3D market

If you want backward compatibility you can’t have an innovative new simulator. If v6 allows us to use all our existing airports and aircraft then that’s good value for our money.

If that’s the end of P3D in its present guise and a brand new simulator is produced in around 4-5 years it’s possible many of us might be attracted to it if it eliminates the gap between v6 and MSFS. It may attract users of that sim back especially if the SDK is fully open to developers and the weather engine is open to 3rd parties.

We all know flight sims are constantly evolving and nothing stays the same for long.

I sincerely hope they are sorry when they see the potential of P3dv6!

Whatever potential there might be will likely be limited to existing P3D flightsimmers.

A **new** flightsim user will think twice before diving into the P3D platform:

1. For training purposes only?
2. Why not MSFS which is also available in Steam and Xbox?

That’s not an option for most in this discussion about the future of P3D.

I really like the JustSim sceneries so have just picked up a couple that are on sale. They are are also doing free / discounted upgrades for several sceneries that are now fully v5 updated. It's a shame that they are not developing any more for P3D for the time being, but who knows what will happen in the future. At least with P3D there's a lot of options available. Would be nice if some more scenery developers would have some sales and reduce the prices of P3D products now that MSFS is providing some volume sales.

There is also Oslo V2 from Aerosoft. I know they left us too and some never wanted to buy from them anymore...that seems to be equal now.

The scenery is originally from 2013 but they updated it in 2017 and 2020. I think it could be still competitive to the new product from Justsim, but we'll see, what they release next week.

It will be interesting to see how Justsim's new version measures up to the Aerosoft's version of old.

As far as I can tell there are no major changes to Oslo since the 2017 expansion which Aerosoft's version includes so  I will be curious to see the new scenery and if anyone here decides to purchase it.

Spoiler

I have Oslo from A€ro$oft, very nice airport and scenery...

If this version is equal... meh.

PS: then they say "P3D doesn't sell". Either they release scenery that we already have or they release stuff that no one is interested in.

13600KF - AIO - 32GB DDR4 - RTX4070 - UW1440p GSync - USB DAC - 2TB NVMe - Windows 11 Pro - Gladiator NXT EVO - 1 Gbps Fiber  - MSFS 2024

So, will this scenery be released, or will it be like MK Studios Rome scenery? (Remember MK Studios said the Rome scenery for P3D was all but done then never released it)

You would think that hopefully those companies have insights of what P3D6 will be, via beta access, etc.

Despite that, if they chose to leave the P3D market, unfortunately it tells a lot about v6. it might not be the game changer, some expect here.

On the other hand, Imaginesim invests development in a new Singapore version as if they knew, P3D will come back. For me, Singapore is ok as it is now. So I assume, the commercial outcome of this new version is as uncertain as it could be. Why do they do that and others tell to deliver a new product and then leaving the market? Oslo seems to be Vaporware anyway. Singapore maybe too as well as Rome by - I don't remember. They may wait for v6 to ride on this wave to make it only compatible to v6 first.

At least, a dead market, is still worth it. Strange? Is it dead or not?

According to Parallel42, publishers of Chaseplane and multiple other add-ons, P3D usage numbers continue to drop. From their latest May 11th. newsletter:

Prepar3D New development remains frozen, and the number of active users continues to drop.

I don't think that's a fair statement.... yet.  They literally announced last week that it would be released soon.

Ok good point.  Time flies!  Although I do think it’s unfair to qualify it as vaporware at this point
