HAWAII TEXTURES

My impression was that Blackshark scans satellite-imagery/orthophotos for building footprints,

Then it is doing a word not allowed poor job in remote areas.

I've noticed that most of New Guinea is unchanged as well.  I didn't remove Wantok's terrain mod to see if all the mesh spikes have been fixed, but in terms of textures I don't see much difference.  I loaded up in an area that I know previously had no textures at all (near Volmimpi), resulting in low res mesh ground of a single green color with no vegetation or buildings... And it still looks like that.  Dunno, there may actually not be any decent imagery available for parts of interior Papua.

My best guess is, that it is due to the often cloudy weather over there.
To get the best textures, they need to fly a plane taking pictures below the clouds.
But then again, I imagine the cloud base is often too low for that.
Maybe a good handmade landclass product can resolve this.

I know it’s not really addressing the textures but. . . before the WU Jorg said they were having trouble getting photogrammetry for Hawaii due to weather, I expect this will arrive in due course but just wasn’t ready in time.

Some of Hawaii with photogrammetry cities/areas will make a huge difference to this WU and the experience of flying around the islands.

It does seem an odd WU and seems to be mainly loads of POIs and a few airports. I expect it’s just the nature of the size of the area with lots of islands and the low population and existing data etc.  plus also there’s lots of islands I expect people don’t fly around often so it’s difficult to know what’s changed if anything.

Sincerely, I don't like at all what I have seen. Perhaps it would be more interesting not updating such large geographical areas and concentrated, with each update, on smaller areas.

The total area might be huge, but 99% of it is water.
Just to keep a sense of perspective, this is what we were given in the last Microsoft Flight Simulator:

Now, we have this:

and yet it is still not good enough?

You’re comparing an old game with the most recent version of flightsim and also looking at one of the better areas in Hawaii.

When you consider Hawaii is such a popular area to visit and well populated I expect many people hoped Hawaii might be a bit better by now, especially after 2 USA updates and a WU that specifically included Hawaii.

But yes Hawaii now, looks better than it did in fsx or whatever that is you’re showing.

As I said before though, hopefully the Hawaii photogrammetry talked about before the WU will arrive at some point.

No sort of work for PHNL at all in this WU? That place needs love and attention bad

I had actually expected FSDreamteam to export its phnl and other Hawaii sceneries to msfs quite some time ago, but it never happened, which seems kind of a strange lost opportunity, especially since Hawaii has always been quite a popular simming area.

There is a company that's been doing Hawaii airports, but they haven't tackled any big ones.

There are however, these two complimentary files.

One could also try this, but I kind of don't like photogrammetry, myself. https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/24868/msfs-honolulu-hawaii-surrounding-area-scenery/

Yup I've been currently using the first airport addon link you posted for now.🍻

As fart as FS Dream Team scenery I've always had texture load inconsistencies running their PHNL and even KIAH in FSX. Haven't tried any in FSDT products in MSFS yet.

As far as overall scenery I enjoy this this one a ton!

At the right altitude (3k-5k feet) you are just the perfect distance above the photogrammetry for it to look convincing in VR high enough to cruise by while not low enough for the photogrammetry to start looking melted.

Especially the night lighting on the hotel resort beach side at the right evening sunset /night hours, bump the wind speed up a little for some water ripples/waves and it's one beautiful fly by.

It's heavy scenery but my system handles it pretty well in VR.

There is a long thread at the Official Forum

with a host of valuable suggestions. Notably, therere is an excellent compilation of WU13 compatible addons by @Editer from 3 days ago. I intend to go through my Hawaii collection taking this as a guideline.

Meh. Overall the scenery is good enough. As long as i stop getting pop up scenery on final then I kind of don't care. It looks darn good the way it is.
