FlyByWire Simulations | A380X | Wingflex

Hi there,

The A380 is an uncommon, huge kind of a plane… One wing is around 50 tons alone, and full of fuel it can reach around 150 tons. Yes, that’s more than the weight of two A320s… for each wing…

For such an unusual mass of fuel and metal, we are experimenting with a new wing flex system from scratch, that can simulate the bending of the wing all along its length, with possible different resonance modes from the root to the tip. Each fuel tank has its own mass and position in the wing, and will drastically affect the wing physics, along with the position of each control surface.

There’s still a lot of work to do, and the wing model is being reworked for full immersion, but we believe it’s the only way to bring you something as close as we possibly can to the real mighty A380!

Looks great that, very realistic

B450 Tomahawk Max / Ryzen 7 5800x3D / RTX 3060ti 8G / Noctua NH-UI21S Max Cooling / 32G Patriot RAM / 1TB NVME / 450G SSD / Thrustmaster TCA & Throttle Quadrant / Xiaomi 32" Wide Curved Monitor 1440p 144hz

Realistic and more fine grained modelling of wing physics and flex? I'll take it! That looks scarily realistic to what I've seen as a wing-view passenger on many flights on the irl A380s... absolutely cannot wait for this and hopefully you guys will be able to at least release an early experimental version some time this year <all fingers crossed>.

Closest representation of real wingflex in a flight simulator yet. Excellent job!

I had a A380 climbing over my head at about 3000 feet yesterday when I bicycling home from work. I stopped to watch in awe. Definitely a historical moment in flight simulation if when this releases finally.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I'm planning to be on an SIA A380 in September. I shall check to see if Airbus's wing flexing is as accurate as FBW's 😉

Nice touch!

Just a bit too close to the mountain range.........white knuckles.

No way. They can't do it. 😄

I'll just have to send them a bug report. 😉

Good luck with the A380 - we are all in awe of FBW's endeavours.

If that is your initial attempt at reworking wing flex then you really don't have much more to do 😁

Current version already looks much much better than in this video!
Can't wait people trying it 🙂
