P3D scenery does not sell well??

Featured Replies

its never stopped developers fighting over the scraps.  there was an aerosoft, mk sudios and justim palma.  As well as LFSB, KORD being done by various developers for example.  If they all got together for an hour chat over teams/skype they could work out who wasnt going to step on whose shoes and they all make money,  But no they make the same old stuff.

its also never stopped devleopers rushing out unbaked junk this is now happening in ms2020 land too as well as what happend in the p3d developers.   You can push it out, hype it a bit and do a bit of fixing later, once they have your money who gives a toss

In my opinion this is whats happened for the last 10 years, bringing the standard downs.  Look at the new RD presets LPFR for example, already done by tropicalsim and yet they release it as a stutterfest. it wont change.

I've wondered if and how flight sims including P3D are played in China and Japan since the Chinese and Japanese have literally thousands of characters.

'Made in China' products are very competitive, so I've wondered why I haven't come across aircraft and other add-ons developed in China.

I think the iFly development team are Chinese (but not sure where they are based...)

I quit buying 3rd party scenery because I got tired of having to go in an update it.

One thing i have noticed is that alot of P3D sceneries remain more expensive that the equivalent MSFS ones. I still buy P3D sceneries (the most recent being yesterday LPPD via ORBX) and would buy alot more if prices were reduced.

I agree. I don't understand how they can justify selling scenery 15 Dollars+ when the product is not up to date/is very old and they don't offer support anymore.

Devs (and a lot of people) say P3D is dead and sales are abysmal, yet they feel they can still charge ridiculous amounts of money for an old, unsupported product. This I will never understand.

However I am sure they feel they can get away with it because their product are, in a way, unique....

Well...I won't be fooled.

Keeping the prices high is perhaps a form of pressure to force us to change platforms. The problem is that there must be people -like me- with a huge library of addons...

13600KF - AIO - 32GB DDR4 - RTX4070 - UW1440p GSync - USB DAC - 2TB NVMe - Windows 11 Pro - Gladiator NXT EVO - 1 Gbps Fiber  - MSFS 2024

"Locked-in" comes to mind.

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

Those of you who have LatinVFR may already have the updated scenery for Barcelona. The runway designations for 07/25 have now been changed to 06/24.

I was quite persistent with Ricardo about providing this and he eventually relented and did what was necessary. But I missed his post around a month ago when he made a zip available on the forum. I installed it today and he confirmed it’s available through SimMarket.

What you may have problems with is 02/20. 02 is landing only; 20 is takeoff only but those don’t work correctly. It’s either both or none. I’ve changed my AFCAD to none and Ai now use the northerly runway for landing and the southerly for takeoffs. 02/20 is only used for nighttime but Ai aren’t that clever.

Agree, primarily why I do most of my flights in P3D ... why pay for the same airport again when it's no different/better in MSFS than the P3D version?  IF MSFS is so lucrative (as developers claim), then one would think developers would have the money/resources to increase development team size and resources and quality ... that clearly isn't happening.

In the same token, I'm seeing a lot of new releases for P3D that are really poor quality/effort (no PBR, no slopped runway support, low resolution textures, not even dynamic lights).

It is happening with some 3rd party developers like PMDG. PMDG has hired more people, most likely because their sales in MSFS have been excellent. As this is related to MSFS, if you want to discuss this in the MSFS forum, I can start a thread there to discuss this with you there.

No thanks, it'll just be another A vs B thread.

Dozens of scenery develop teams in China whom mostly focus on Chinese scenery, like WFSS, Bridge, etc, etc. as for Aircraft,  iFly is mostly Chinese team just FYI

its because as a community we dont complain, thats why.  Not to mention this craze of unqualifed teenagers and fools on twitch/youtube hyping junk to get other teenagers to buy stuff.

The standard of addons didnt go down over night, its been a long standing thing.

one of the things I find baffling for example is everytime I called out shoddy workmanship a number of people would come on here and chime in and argue with me that i wrong and developers are the best thing since sliced bread,  then when they couldnt run the FSL concorde or had problems installing it, they would push FSL under the bus.

You will not find a more bizzare community than the flightsim community we are our worse own enemy.

I think you'll find that everywhere on the web.  Some moderation (not all) at this website seems to be heavily bias to certain individuals, platforms, and political swing (some are silenced/warned others permitted to violate policy, very inconsistent).

As far as quality content, that takes time and money (even freeware developer spends their own money making content).  Being skilled with the SDK/PDK and 3DSMax (or Blender) takes years to get proficient.  P3D and XP are probably the worst SDK/PDK as far as getting content into the platform due to round trips where what you see in 3DSMax is not what you get in P3D.  MSFS SDK does solve the WYSIWYG problem, but the MSFS SDK is less powerful/flexible than P3D SDK/PDK (especially the PDK).

I think much of the less than optimal pay-ware content is a result of ROI and part time work effort.  Not make excuses, just my thoughts on why some products never get completed, don't get updated, aren't using the latest SDK/PDK platform supported features ... much of that seems to be P3D content built with FSX SDK (at least in the early 5-7 years) which left newer scenery looking like FSX scenery because things like PBR, Dynamic Lights, slopped runways were never implemented or retrofitted.  But I do get where you're coming from and it is a little frustrating.
