June 18, 20232 yr Hi all, wondering if I'm potentially misunderstanding something here. I've been using the Black Square Bonanza a lot and I really love it. I just tried out the Milviz 310R and I can immediatrly see the EDM-700 is a very shallow simulation vs the black square, but what about the output HP? At 1000ft AGL with the mixture producing peak RPM, both engines show 60bhp. Surely this isn't correct? Am I getting something wrong, or is this just a meaningless graphical gloss? If so, it probably means the 310R is a no go for me. I've got too used to Black Squares deep engine simulation!
June 18, 20232 yr Commercial Member I suspect the bhp display in the 310R is actually showing percent power. The numbers are way too small to be showing raw horsepower.

I looked at the carenado aircraft and they show the same numbers. I wonder if it's maybe some default copy/paste thing maybe. Definitely impacts my view of the addon though. If the engine isn't simulated correctly that's quite a big deal.
June 18, 20232 yr I'm not aware any of the instruments show bhp. What gauge are you looking at? Ryzen 7 9800x3D @5.2GHz; ASUS X670-P Motherboard; nVidia 4080 (factory o/c); 32G 5600MHz DDR5 SDRAM; Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset; Quest 3 VR Headset

The EDM700: https://www.jpinstruments.com/shop/edm-700/ You can see it on the bottom left of the main panel. One for each engine. I'm a little disappointed if this is the case. This unit is a major part of taking care of and managing the engines.
June 18, 20232 yr Author Just reconfirmed. HP shows 70 per engine at full power at sea level. Guess this one isn't as detailed as I thought.
June 18, 20232 yr I'm still flying Torquesim sr22 from xplane until A2A arrives. I am not currently convinced by any GA addon from mfs.
June 18, 20232 yr I agree it will be interesting to see what A2A can bring to the sim in terms of detail and accuracy, just because their commitment to this has been so longstanding, which is reflected on how long they are taking to get their first aircraft onto the platform. I honestly just wish it was something more interesting than the Comanche; I will purchase it but I can't say I am excited by a 1950s era, single piston. I do hope they bring something more substantial to market soon. MSFS 2024. Yeah, I don’t use it (the EDM-700), tbh. If it was A2A it’d be a different story. But I’m sure they’re not simulating GAMI injectors anyway, so I’m not too upset about it. The quick and dirty method seems to work fine. Though when looking at engine stats, some of the degradation doesn’t seem to correlate with how the engine has been treated. still it’s a very enjoyable plane to fly, and one of my ‘go-to’ choices. They seem to be more interested in furthering their real world aviation aspirations with their choices of aircraft models than satisfying the market. Just idle speculation on my part. June 18, 20232 yr To go back to your original question, and apart from the specific issue with the C310R you noted: I believe the Black Square Bonanza and Baron have more system depth than the MIlviz 310R. I have all three a/c and though I have not made a comprehensive comparison, the depth and operational realism of the Black Square a/c are truly impressive.
