New build 7800X3D + 4090 - I'm not that impressed

Featured Replies

I'm absolutely blown away!  Haha got ya.  Sorry for clickbait.

I've setup my new rig today, current test flight out of EGLL inibuilds, to EGCC.  I just whacked everything on Ultra @ 4k - haven't tinked with one setting and well...........coming from my 8 year old i74790k + 1070 @1080P my jaw is still on the floor.  Its butter smooth not had one stutter yet and I've touched no settings whatsoever!!!!

I've not setup FSLTL yet so using the Asobo injected AI but was getting about 45-50 FPS coming out of EGLL in the PMDG 737-800, at cruise about 60FPS.  Currently descending into EGCC.

I've not turned on Frame Generation yet either.................

Please don't take this as a boast post, I'm just so incredibly chuffed.  I work word not allowed hard supporting wife and 2 kids and this rig is a gift to myself after a nice summer bonus at work.

Holy moly I can't believe what I'm seeing out the window!!

Just landed at EGCC, jaw still on the floor!!

Same with me  :)

20+ years of insane FRUSTRATION   with low FPS with complex scenarios. Did countless number of upgrades , but never found that sweet spot ( i tend to fly complex airliners into complex cities and airports!).

Took the plunge last fall and got an i9 14900k at 5.4 GHZ and a 3080TI.... P3D ran smooth as silk, MSFS , well another story. Consistent hitting the VRAM wall , stuttering and low FPS ( i was trying to land in CYYC with the Fenix A320 and barely getting 30FPS -- on a latest generation CPU).

I said " enough is enough" My impatience just ran out after 2 decades of this. Had a nice bonus from work, splurged on a 4090 with 24 GB of VRAM , turned on Frame Generation ( after having tons of driver crashes - but this is now long since resolved - thank god).

Same scenario. over 60 + FPS everywhere! Landing my Fenix in CYYZ with all the Fly Tampa goodies actually feeling like a REAL FLIGHT , and not a 2005ish barely there flight simulator. FG is almost that magic bullet we have been waiting for for decades. Bar none. Yes, you have to configure your monitor and stuff ( to avoid screen tearing) . but GSYNC/FREESYNC will mitigate that. Seeing my VRAM touch 20 GB in some complex sceneries and everything smooth as silk , its a game changer.,

Until CPU's come with 6+ GHZ out of the box , a 4+ series GPU is that we need! .

And with FS2024 coming out , who knows how much VRAM it will need . If textures and even higher res and more lifelike, i bet 20-24 GB will be the norm.

I've turned on FG what is this voodoo magic....110 FPS on the climb out of EGAA in the Fenix!  My old build never got about 25FPS if I was lucky in the Fenix.

Mind blown.....

Crazy isn’t it. I upgraded to a 4080 earlier this week and FG is just an absolute game changer for something like MSFS. I’m on a 5800X3D but like you, see 110+fps at times. Now also on a native G-Sync 4K 120hz screen as well.

Flew into Gatwick earlier today on vatsim. it was pretty busy and I use AIG model matching and the great EGKK freeware scenery. Still getting 70+ fps!

This is so nice to see, it is what I experienced in May when I upgraded mine.

The only thing that bothers mine is inibuilds KJFK, but I hear on these forums that iniBuilds JFK is hard on everyone's hardware, so I'm not too miffed.   Also someone here recently said iniBuilds are working on an update to improve its performance.

Anyway, welcome the the x3D klub, we has all your base 😆

Menu FPS is completely irrelevant, some games can render thousands of FPS in menus

my 400 fps in still image menu feels much smoother than your 100 fps!

p.s.

didn't expect anyone would take my post serious. 🤣

You've already posted it once before in an discussion to prove your game ran over 300fps, seemingly believing that your main menu FPS mattered. So it was hard to tell.

and yet you take it serious again.😀

my system specs show the exact same configuration as the o.p.

p.s. don't take life tooo serious, just like the o.p.'s thread title.
