Flabbergasted ! GobSmacked !

Hi,

Ive been using MSFS for over 2 yrs now (and flightsimming for >20yrs), in all weathers and multiple planes. But yesterday blew me away. I saw a RAINBOW replicated as I was flying at about 6000 ft. Okay I might be easily impressed but I found that truly astonishing. Has anyone seen an aurora ?

No, but they are on their way soon.  There is a third party app to put Aurorae in the sim, but I don't like the look of it too much, and MS / Asobo are on to it anyway.

I would prefer them to put the starts right first to be honest, rather than the fuzzy blobs we get currently.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Still prefer AI enhancement to be gobsmacked with, unfortunately just like seasons out of the box, I think sooner hell will freeze over.

This might be actually true, if the ocean currents and jetstream over the Atlantic really are going to shift.

I9 12900K @ 5.1ghz P-cores/ 4.0 ghz E-cores fixed HT off / Corsair iCue H150i Capellix Cooler/ MSI Z690 CARBON WiFi / 32GB Corsair DDR5 RAM @ 5200 mhz XMP on / 12GB MSI 4090 RTX Ventus 3 / 7,5 total TB SSD (2+2+2+1+0,5 all NVMe)/ PSU 850W Corsair / 27" (1080P)

Auroras should be coming with FS2024.

Well they’ll be in 2024 at launch, and Jorg said he wants the team to try and back port them to 2020 since they did technically promise seasons in an update. He did say It won’t look as good as 2024 because of the lack of 3D trees.

If that is the case, might be gobsmacked sooner than I thought. They have my blessings.

But please, make AI Traffic a godforgiven priority nr. 1 in MsfS 2024. Otherwise the bug section will light up like a Christmas tree on Launch Day.

I thought the trees were already 3D in MSFS2020.  Or is it that they are various flat images projected in various 3D planes around the trunk?
If so, they are very convincing, and they already bend in the wind.  You can see this if you park next to trees and increase the wind 30mph +.
Obviously the more wind, the more they flex.

I've alway seen rainbows since it was launched? But I've not seen procedural trees even though they were in the initial launch trailers. I suppose it's because they are possible but scenery designers haven't bothered to implement/include  them. There's an addon for the aurora on Simmarket.

Trees are now semi-3D, as they are not real 3D models you can inspect with any 3D modelling tool, but rather constructed by shaders from texture arrays. Otherwise, fps would me muuuch lower. So the promise of real 3D trees in MSFS 2024 should be taken with a grain of salt - the surely will only be shown at short distances.

Btw, Bijan uses some 3D tree models in his addons (for example Baobab or Giant Sequoia trees), but very sparsely and only in restricted areas.

Btw 2 - I like these words the op used for the thread title. 😁

Ah yes!  Flabbergasted and Gobsmacked, two good old english words there!   As in...  I will be flabbergasted if MSFS2024 launches this year, and absolutely gobsmacked if all of the old bugs from MS2020 are fixed correctly!

Have seen rainbows in msfs and have been equally gobsmacked

I would be mesmerized by aurorae.

We read performance will be hugely improved in 2024, and I hope to heck they grapple w/ improving cloud resolution and depiction with some of that performance as the current rendering has a very long ways to go, very long.  If it and ATC aren't greatly improved I'm holding off on 2024...at least will try...😜

Fwiw, canned AI in game will never come close to the multiple free and payware options currently available.

Better they strip it out entirely and focus on core elements like weather and seasons.

Keep the blue part on top...

Artificial insemination enhancement!?!?

Hmmm... I must say I prefer to be gobsmacked the natural way!
