You are right, although at times difficult, I should always be very happy as an IT manager, when people are clamoring for my services, if that was not so, I could be without a job :(I also understand the people that work at ACE, especially Taylor, responding (communicating) and trying to keep the costumer happy is an art with a whole lot of patience, a whole lot of repeating, and a whole lot of understanding, but hey when you commit yourself to a job of costumer communication and service, that
October 23, 200718 yr I went to two FFs and a Best Buy and nobody knew what I was talking about. Quite excited but now a downer. Oh well. I'll wait until next week.
October 23, 200718 yr This whole release is a bit of a debacle. Nobody knew what i was talking about when i was asking for it and nobody seems to carry it or know if they plan to. There seems to have been a bit of confusion on this board as to when it was coming out which is pretty uncharacteristic.________________________________________________________________________________________________Intel D975XBX2 'Bad Axe 2' | Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.20Ghz | 2 GB Super Talent DDR2 800 | Big Typhoon VX | eVGA 8800GTS @ 565/900 | Seagate 2x320GB SATA RAID-0 | OCZ GameXStream 700W | Creative X-Fi | Silverstone TJ-09BW | Matrox Triplehead Setup
October 23, 200718 yr I'm a Beta tester. I have no idea why but I felt compelled to check availability here in Abbotsford, BC. The only hit I got was at Future Shop. Their stock database showed 18 copies in transit. The clerk said it would come by courier and ventured a guess they could arrive yet today but tomorrow is more likely.Edit: it was noon (PDT) I checked. If you phone a Future Shop store, ask them to check stock #95039 -- $29.99.CalCYXX
October 23, 200718 yr >Nobody knew what i was talking about when i was asking for it and nobody seems to carry it or know if they plan to.If it ain't Halo (*or a similarly hyped platform game), chances are the sales drones won't have a clue. Nobody in my area knew what Flight Simulator X was last year, I don't expect them to know what Acceleration is this year. I'm on my own in this hunt. Remember the day when Electronics Boutique was 90% PC games and 10% console? Take a look now, and that too will play into helping answer your concerns. If you're seeking blame, put it on your local store for not providing their salesforces with any semblance of education as to what they are carrying.-Greg
October 23, 200718 yr By now, I think we all get it -- you're unhappy. You seem intent on blaming someone for your disappointment. Will that fix the problem...or give you some sort of satisfaction? If so, I suggest you contact MS Marketing. They're the ones who control the show, not Phil Taylor or anyone else at ACES.But, take heart. The extra day of waiting is well worth it, I can assure you.CalCYXX
October 23, 200718 yr My Sunday news paper BestBuy insert clearly shows that Acceleration will be "Available on Wed 10/24 before 2PM!Don't think it's that big of a deal. Jeez, if people can't wait 1 or 2 days without ranting, they really need to get a life!As Phil said: there are more pressing things in this world to worry about!Pete S. October 23, 200718 yr >Not cool Aces. Not cool at all getting us all hyped up on a>release date on the 23rd when that was a ship date. 2 thumbs>down for Phil on this one.LOL, I have to wait nearly 2 weeks for it in the UK, get a grip, really.
October 24, 200718 yr I think there is confusion over whether any "promise" has been made, and whether anything has been "broken" at all other than unrealistic expectations."Acceleration will be available in late October" is what I said inhttp://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2007...on-and-sp2.aspxwhether or not I ever said "will" instead of "should", I cannot tell but my re-read of the '"P2 Post is Live" thread doesnt show that I made that mistake, and promising a specific day is always mistakeAnd give that after we hit the "send the ISO to manufacturing" button in the release tool it is well out of our control, publicly blaming Aces or me personally is just plain wrong. I think I have earned more respect than that. Again, this is why I dont like to post here. This site is ruder than any of the other 8 FS enthusiast sites I post at, with many gratuitous attacks on Aces and me personally. In the last 2-4 weeks alone I have:1)been called a liar ( and apologies later in the threads dont erase that fact )2)been told we are lazy developers ( wrongly, without checking facts )3)had a hangmans' noose attached to a thread in direct response to me ( which hints at directed violence against an individual, and I saw little condemnation of that when any indication of combat or crash damage gets huge condemnation here )4)and now been directly blamed for a 1-day delay when its clear I cannot control that.5) and that is ignoring all the stuff thrown at me and Aces over the DX10 release. Even given I openly stated here that a humble tone was appropriate given someone elses promises long before I arrived; which clearly wasnt enough of an apology.Really, is that how AVSim wishes to be seen? As that sort of site? Are we all so perfect in our every day lives that each and every little thing that some one feels is wrong needs to be taken as worth a personal attack? Cannot we be a little more tolerant and understanding a community?I repeat, a 1 day delay in a game is no big deal even if it was promised. Look at the world around you and if you really feel the 1-day-delay issue is the most pressing thing around you, well, I feel it is completely legitimate to challenge that world view. October 24, 200718 yr Mods, looks like its time for a goober clean up again. I can't believe these guys keep coming out the woodwork! October 24, 200718 yr I've always considered Avsim to be the premier FS website and it's my first stop every day when I come online. It's a shame that a few individuals are damaging its reputation, especially among the very people that provide Flight Simulator to us in the first place.Really, as someone said above, with so many serious issues in the world is it really a big deal if a piece of entertainment software is a day, a week, or a month late? It wlll come and it will provide us with years of entertainment value. It would be a shame if MS/ACES stopped posting here because of a few. In my FS experience, we've never seen this level of participation before and I am grateful for it.Jim
October 24, 200718 yr What kind of an idiot do you have to be to expect a game to be available on its release date.Have you guys never bought a computer game before? Release dates are always the dates they ship. They are never directly available until 2-3 days later. The only time this isn't true is when its a huge game with alot of fan fare on the release.Regular computer games always take the path acceleration is taking.
October 24, 200718 yr Phil...I don't have nearly the experience nor the investment... (though I did invest about $3000+ in getting ready for FSX)... as these other guys. But I ache everytime I read the personal covert and often, overt, ineuendo issued here; not to mention direct attacks over things for which you have no control. Those of us who are in professions which take a lot of "shots" from the outside, as I am, realize, that these body blows take their toll after a while. I don't care how professional you are... how often you remind yourself, that its only a job... For the first time... I sense those bruises in your last post... You have always communicated in an amazingly professional tone in light of the barage of shells. Please don't go away, Phil. If you choose to, please e-mail me and let me know what forums you frequent. I don't know what to say, except I apologize in behalf of some who can't, won't, or just don't know how. I think there is a decent way to commmunicate disappointment, etc... but so much of this has been over the line. Its embarassing.Unlike some of my friends here... I have huge life demands beyond my simming time. Sure, I was excited about getting the expansion pack today... but frankly, I was trying to decide when I would have time to pick it up, even if it came out. T'was on my day off too... Big DEAL!!! I've been playing with this since '98. I think I'm "as passionate" as the next guy about aviation. I have 2500+ hours in real airplanes and I depend on MSFS to fulfill the dream that I can no longer afford. But LIFE is SO MUCH BIGGER than FSX.Phil, I may be wrong, but I don't remember anyone from Microsoft ever being regular contributors to these forums. Thank you for your contributions... being more airplane savvy, than computer savvy, your posts have been so helpful. I hope that a time arrives when you come to AVSIM you won't have to feel like a gladiator entering the arena again!!Gratefully AND Regretfully,Steve
