Ha. Well, those were advanced for me haha. I didn't realize. They did go fairly in depth from what I remember.

He said he was going to make an advanced tutorial just on ILS approaches with the DC6.  It never happened.

This plane flies great for me. Love this plane. The latest update a few days ago didn't improve anything for me as it was already pretty good. Followed nav tracking, did some radio nav later that day and it made a good ILS approach into KSAN.

I do still use the "engineer" at times when I want to just jump in and fly (busy life).

I'm on the bright side too, the DC-6 after many months started to fly properly just before the last patch. But it was a very hard time because some people here and in the official forum were denying that the DC-6 had problems. But PMDG is producing patches just like shooting in the darkness because they and few other people can't reproduce the bugs. Also, I can't understand the "stopped flying it" people, without writing their DC-6 problems in the official forum and here.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

I checked option 5; fly it occasionally but it has problems.

I’ve had the rock n roll course following in gps and I’ve had the failure to reliably follow an ILS.

At the moment I have the excessive oil usage and shut down of the outer engines just after takeoff.

It’s a remarkable plane and I know if I delete everything and reinstall it will work again….for a while. However, time is limited and I also have several other remarkable planes that just work….and keep on working.

I can’t help thinking they’ve merely to reach out to WT discord occasionally.

I’ll come back to it…at some point.

Yeah, not sure. With such a mix of people endorsing problems and most are not (most people just fly these planes and don't post anything anywhere I assume). I did have problems with it for quite a while but there most recent fixes solved the issue.

I am thinking that the vast majority of issues is related to conflicts somewhere. Example, having one of the 750 mods while flying the dc-6 caused problems for me at one point even though the mod had nothing to do with the dc6. Still....conflict.

Just like CTD's: the overwhelming majority (I'd venture to say almost all) of them are caused by mods/add-ons and/or conflicts.

Bob-

The DC-6  remains one of my very favorite airplanes in flight simulation period. I tend to fly her from VOR to VOR or even an occasional ADF when I can find one. I also tend to fly her manually, only using the Gyro pilot to hold heading an altitude in straight line segments. I very rarely use any automation for approaches, preferring to keep my mental and motor skills sharpened.

The cargo models propensity for dirt dives has finally been eliminated in the latest version. I am not sure that has been released yet.

For me, the entire point is to re-create transport flying in the 1950s, and I am fine without GPS. I do agree that her engines are still a little too finicky, however, it is entirely possible to get 100 hours plus with judicious management.

I would suggest that if people approach the aircraft, as they would an elderly aunt, they are very fond of, they would be less disappointed.

That is the way I look at her and I still love her so.

My elderly aunts would be terrible with GPS  😃

Love to fly this plane, more again after the last two updates with now two options, GTN750 or GPS with Gyropilot.

So we have the choice fly it the modern way ( GTN750) or the older way ( Giropilot )

Like to have this choice and it is a well done artwork for a DC-6 from PMDG 👍

cheers 😉

A GTN option? Officially? Did I miss something? Or do you mean some tinkering around with pseudo replacements or popups?

Cheers

I just returned to flying the DC6 on a milkrun in Alaska with GPS and Gyropilot and have some plans to use it further on tours. I even found some time to paint it. Love it and to be honest I use it more on shorter hops and let my flight crew do the job. I have enough to do with flying and fight icing. It's not that they put three people on this plane to get bored like two on a boeing or bus 😄

In my eyes still a very good addon worth to stay in fleet and get some flying hours.

Cheers

Is there an in depth PDF tutorial for flying the DC6? I have just switched from P3D to Microsoft Flight Simulator, and this plane looks really interesting.

It comes with a good set of documentation and if you want to take a sneak peek into it watch the official PMDG youtube videos made around release time.

I simply open the GTN750 (installed in MSFS) from the insim taskbar and put it on my 2nd monitor, set the GTN autopilot to on there and that has worked well on my flights so far. APP works best, at least for me..

Ah yes, that sounds like a PMS thingy I personally avoid like plaque 😄 Thats a solution for sure but doesn't feel right for me, but hey thats subjective. Same goes for faking a 650 into the 430. And honestly the 430 is doing a good job for me. Only thing missing is a charts integration into the EFB but we all know the story behind pmdg enhancing older products and EFB in general beeing a lets call it a somehow weak point 😄

That is a total unrealistic workaround, in some YT videos you can see the GNS and no other GPS devices. I don't look at what is working better, but at best realistic compromise for the PMDG DC-6. It is not an "elderly aunt" but it's an "elderly HAUNT", but fortunately it's working well for me. Regarding the gyropilot problem driven by the GPS or the Bendix radio, we have to consider the Navigraph thing, because they had problems recently with VORs and we are at the Rev.4 at the moment.

and here a VOR navigation:

I have a normal and without charts Navigraph subscription, I'm using LNM to see SID, STAR and Approaches and it works well for the DC-6, because it flies different, it's not an A320 and similar.
