Fenix landing problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm having problems with Fenix landing.

Everything is fine until landing, I'm on automatic thrust control. Shortly before landing I get a speed warning and I no longer have any speed.

I posted a video of the landing. Can anyone see where I made a mistake?

In any case, I find it very strange.. I mainly fly Boeing, but I have probably flown over 300-400 FSLabs.. I didn't have any problems with Fenix either.. I haven't flown Fenix for a few months and have only had the problems recently

thx

Do you use a keyboard shortcut (or hardware) for your AP disconnect?

I'm wondering if that assignment is also accidentally assigned to the autothrottle, because the problem occurred as soon as you disconnected the AP.

It's really, really hard to read what is going on on the diplays with the ultrawide. Any chance you can crop it down?

What are you using for a throttle? Right after you turn off AP, it gives you the speed warnng, flashes THR_CLIMB and iniates a go around. His ATHR is on until the go around starts. The plane thinks you are crashing. I have run into this if I am really unstable on a landing but you look ok.

I wonder if the problem is your throttle isn't in the right detents. or its getting kicked out of the detent when you disengage.

Do you use different profiles for your HW, because it does look like a keybinding issue.

I had the exact same thing happen to me today while trying to land the Fenix.  I’ve flown probably 20 flights with the plane and never had it happen till today.  It was virtually the exact same set up as I was on short final and just disconnected the autopilot.  All of a sudden the speed bled off and I got the “speed, speed” warning.  The auto throttle was still engaged.  I was able to recover and got the plane down without issues but I wonder if there is some type of hardware issues.  I was using the thrust master airbus side stick and use the built in throttle slider.  It’s worked fine before.  Very odd that it would just pop out of no where.

Just a thought if you’re on beta make sure your assistance settings are correct as they reset every time you load in.

Hi,

First of all, thank you very much for answers.

I also have the problem with speed when I leave AP switched on.

I deactivated it in the video beforehand because I wanted to take control of the speed.

The problem with speed also occurs when AP is active up to the runway.

I don't understand the problem. I have several 100 hours in FSlabs and I also flew a lot with Fenix and never had such problems.

Normally I switch off the AP below 1000 feet and land manually with active thrust control, it always worked... I don't know where the problem is

As far as I know I’m not on beta.  It’s not a major deal honestly.  I love hand flying anyway so the autothrottle system is really like cheating!

Have you updated to the latest version, v1.5.2.214 released on 22/08/2023?

Are you in the MSFS SU14 beta programme?

Have you often landed at 8,000 feet MSL without problem?

What was your landing weight?

What was the external air temperature at the time?

Vapp was fine until you disconnected the AP, where it dropped into the amber caution range. I also noticed you also had a 10 knot tailwind at 1,000 feet AGL.
Did you set the correct details in the APPR page of the MCDU for the conditions you were flying?

There was a Boeing-style EGPWS callout of “1,000” just after the Airbus one.
Try the approach again, same weather, ensure all details for the flight are correctly entered in the MCDU and without any other mods.

Also, are you using FS Realistic?  I think that can cause some issues with the Fenix.

Also, you might have better luck with this on the Fenix discord.

I had a similar problem tonight. I know the Fenix quite well, so I was suprised it was acting up on me.

Turns out, when SU14 beta reset my accessibility options, and I set them back, I missed "icing effects." The Fenix needs this to be off.

Turning it off fixed the issue.

Looks like the Fenix was slowly bleeding air speed until creeping dangerously close to stall speed. I can hear the autopilot disconnect sound so autothrottle and autopilot might have switched off (the cockpit elements are so zoomed out and so tiny I cannot see if the green autopilot and A/T lights are on or off in this video, every cockpit element and switch seems to be only four pixels wide).

But even without autothrottle the Airbus goes on full throttle when getting close to stall as part of Alpha Floor protection. 🙂

I watched the video again. Not sure. Sorry.

A question - what are you using for pushback?

Aamir Thacker

you don't need to disconnect autothrottle on airbus, just during flare, you pull throttle back to idle

@Aamir I thought the icing setting is usable with the Fenix now? As long as you use anti-ice, obviously.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
