MSFS Adaptive LOD

If you've never heard of DynamicLOD before and you are happy with AutoFPS, then I suggest you don't worry about it and stick with AutoFPS. It is the predecessor app to AutoFPS and is much more hands on, requiring good knowledge of MSFS settings and setting up LOD/alt tables to meet your needs.

Thank you

I was going to write up something fresh for you, but the truth is what I wrote in the readme comparing these two apps has stood the test of time and is still valid today

Thank you.  I had missed that comparison, lost in this seemingly record-setting Avsim topic, now into it's 87th page. I believe reposting this will be beneficial to all who now find it with the fresh post.

MSFS2024 has some kind a better LOD changing system, because even 20 step increase you dont se in sim as stutter. I will bet it is because of in build dynamic lod setting.

This setup works well with GA flying (VR).

So an obvious question here.  Does DynamicLOD RE take advantage of frame generation?

How does this app work for Frame Generation (FG) users?

  • The app does detect correct FG FPS when FG (native nVidia or FG mod) is enabled in MSFS, however FG is only active when MSFS is the focused window and becomes inactive when not, through your graphics driver not this app.
  • To see correct MSFS FG FPS, use the app's "On Top" option to overlay this app over MSFS and give MSFS the focus.
  • If MSFS FG is being incorrectly reported as enabled by the app, the likely reason is that either the FG mod had been installed and removed or you have disabled Hardware Accelerated Graphics Scheduling under Windows settings and the now the now greyed out MSFS FG setting may show that it is off but it is still set to on internally to MSFS. To fix, change the DLSSG line in your UserCfg.opt file to be DLSSG 0.
  • Lossless Scaling (LS) FG, including the scaling multiplier used, is also detected and the correct LSFG multiplied FPS is displayed.
    • The app will first try to use an LS profile with the specific name MSFS2020 or MSFS2024, depending on which MSFS version is currently in use, to obtain these settings.
    • If such an MSFS2020 or MSFS2024 profile does not exist then the settings in the Default profile will be used.
    • If you are using LSFG 1.1 in LS and the app is not showing a 2X multiplier, temporarily select LSFG 2.3 in LS and select the 2X multiplier, switch back to LSFG 1.1 then press the app's Redetect button.
    • If you make changes to your LS settings after starting a flight, press app's Reset button so that the app can redetect them correctly.
  • Detection of FG is normally only performed upon starting a flight. If FG is enabled or LS is started after this detection is normally performed, press the Reset button for it to be detected.

OK, great documentation for others.  I am a longtime AutoFPS adopter and your explanation indicates DynamicLOD RE works much the same way if not exactly the same way.  More of a response than I personally needed but certainly helpful to many others.  Thank you.

It's from the readme for AutoFPS, which I just copied across to this app's readme because it is relevant there too, so not much of an effort for me to respond.

DynamicLOD_ResetEdition version 0.4.2 has just been released and is available for download here.

In short, you get an updated installer, the same app functionality with improved resilience to future MSFS updates.

For those running the MSFS 2024 SU1 Beta, please find a compatible test version of DynamicLOD_ResetEdition here.

If the link is dead it will be because I have created a newer test version and I am unable to edit this post, in which case you can navigate your way to it from here. Look for v0.4.4-test MSFS 2024 SU1 Beta Compatibility.

It turns out that the MSFS 2024 camera states changed (again!) in the SU1 Beta and one of them was causing the session to drop out when you went into the settings, which was resetting your LODs to default. They were working properly in your flight and were just not visible in the menu because of the session dropout.

In any case, I have added the new camera state and you should now be able to see your LODs match what the app was showing when you first go into the settings menu here in Test2.

No worries. I'll be away for the next day so I won't be able to do any more fixes until I get back but it should work OK as these are all the same changes that went into AutoFPS earlier today from which I have been getting feedback that the app is connecting and changing values as it should.
