MSFS Adaptive LOD

I'll take the silence as a no then, and hope that Dynamic LOD continues to work in MSFS24.

Reset, I'm still using this app as it suits my needs and wants perfectly. Any chance you'll continue to support this for MSFS24?

I think he's maybe waiting until MSFS2024 is released to see if his apps are A) required any more (Asobo may introduce better Auto LODs) and B) Whether there's a need for fundamental deep changes to his code which of course no one knows yet.

It could be that @Reset XPDR stopped getting notifications for this thread. I did, even though I had previously subscribed to it.

AutoFPS does a good job at changing TLOD, why is DLOD still relevant? Is it?

MSFS

Could be; I'll just wait and see what happens when 24 comes out. The auto LOD program looks way to complicated for my personal needs, though there may be a way to simplify its settings to mimic the Dynamic LOD program in case it isn't supported going forward.

Because simmers without a GSync monitor need a fixed framerate for a smooth experience. AutoFPS does not work with a fixed framerate.

Actually AutoFPS does work with a fixed frame rate if you use the Auto TLOD automation mode and you make sure your TLOD schedule allows you to maintain your FPS cap (like you have to do for Dynamic LOD too). I use AutoFPS all the time this way when flying VR locked at 40 FPS for motion reprojection reasons and it works just as well as Dynamic LOD does doing the same.

Yes it absolutely is and I would be struggling to get a smooth Flight Sim without it.  Set it and forget it.

I find AutoFPS overly complex and brings in stutters, despite tweaking it for hours.  I admire their tenacity, but they are 100 pages into their thread and STILL tweaking it to get good results.  I really hope for folks like me the DLOD program continues to work.

Good to know. I haven't looked at the AutoFPS app for some time. It seems to have become quite complex with new features being added and removed quite frequently. I don't see an AGL-TLOD table in the AutoFPS app though.

Anyway the DynamicLOD_ResetEdititon app is still easy and intuitive to use - and it just works. So I will keep using that. Hopefully its functionality will continue to work.

Thanks a lot for your ongoing contribution. Your app has completely changed my simming experience and allowed me to postpone upgrading my computer for a while.

I have intentionally not touched DynamicLOD_ResetEdititon in many months as nothing has really changed on the MSFS front that impacts its operation. AutoFPS has been recently revitalised because of Asobo finally fixing the ground texture corruption issue in SU15 which meant I could improve the TLOD automation process on and near to the ground, which is what the app originally intended to do.

Yes there is a lot of discussion in the Auto FPS thread, but most of that is test feedback on experimental features, some of which didn't make the grade, and the features being added or changed are mostly under the hood. Of relevance to DynamicLOD_ResetEdititon users is that two non-UI changing updates will probably make their way to the app soon, namely a significant app-to-MSFS memory space interaction reduction (up to 30 times), which improves smoothness, and updated supporting apps like DOT Net and MobiFlight Wasm, which is just good housekeeping.

Re DynamicLOD_ResetEdititon's long term outlook, if MSFS2024 comes up lacking in the intelligent LOD adjusting department then I will do what I can to get DynamicLOD_ResetEdititon working with it, but no promises as MSFS2024 is an unknown entity at this time.

DynamicLOD_ResetEdition has been updated to version 0.3.9 and is available here.

This release preserves DynamicLOD_ResetEdition's existing functionality and updates the app with relevant internal and UI innovations developed over the last six months for the MSFS_AutoFPS app, the most significant of which is reduced direct MSFS interaction for a smoother flight experience.

As I posted here, it looks like MS/Asobo are implementing some form of dynamic LOD in MSFS 2024, so hopefully it is good enough that I don't need to get any of my apps working in MSFS 2024. We shall see soon enough!

Your efforts are highly acclaimed and appreciated in the flight sim community, and it is my firm belief that if MSFS 2024 does embody such a change that is your vision and efforts that created their awareness of the need.
