Sun Texture

Featured Replies

I've never liked the look of the sun in MSFS. Its like a white hole in the sky.

Anyone know if there is a better sun texture available anywhere?

Do you have Bloom turned off in your graphics settings by any chance? It looks very different with and without.

Yep Bloom is off.

To me the sun looks better with Lens Flare ON but then you also get the colored circles that are also part of the lens effect.

I think that the Sun looks great in MSFS. Certainly a million times better than it looks in P3D.

You can't really complain about the look of the sun if you turn bloom off.  It looks far better with it on otherwise it is just a flat disk as you say.

If it looks like bloom is too powerful, it can be caused by the humidly setting in the weather window.  Turn humidity down to between 1 and 2 and it looks much better, including the horizon.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Yeah I turned bloom off at one point and the sun looked exactly as described. Bloom on is the answer.

You are right! Bloom ON is the answer.

Many thanks.

I don't like bloom on, actually on my monitor with HDR on I disable all the post processing effects. Looks way more realistic. Maybe someone will created a better sun texture that's a little softer around the edges for us who don't use bloom.

I find that the graphics for the sun is a compromise towards being way too forgiving, in that IRL looking/glancing directly at the unobscured sun is blinding.  Obviously one doesn't do that purposefully, but there can be situations when flying where it's difficult not to do.

I hate the look of the bloom In MSFS. I wish we had the ability to adjust its strength.

I don't like the Moon textures and appearance. There is no Bloom option for it unfortunately 😟

The default setting is 1 (the lowest).

Bloom is needed for the sun to look good, but since SU14 it's another cause of stuttering under certain conditions, just like panning through the horizon (GPU spike).

I use HDR - what do you find unrealistic about bloom in HDR?

Me too. That is why I had it turned off.

Now I'm trying to decide whether its worth keeping it on just to make the sun look better.
