KATL Mod Project- Crowdfunded

Featured Replies

Is there any Mod Developer who could be encouraged to take ATL on?

was so hopeful when I read ImagineSim’s FB announcement finally acknowledging the shortcomings in ATL. Then they released their “update” and it was back to square one. I use the handcrafted ATL A LOT. The ATC there is superb, and it’s geographically convenient.

I know there are a few scenery developer/modders who have done a SUPERB job with other airports. Perhaps we could crowdfund our next airport- KATL?

Anyone with access to an airport Modder WITH A PORTFOLIO, please have them PM me and I will coordinate. Surely there are enough of us, willing to contribute $5 to make the project worthwhile?

Fingers x’ed!

Whilst this one doesn't have a great deal of interest to me, what is interesting is the thought of crowdfunding such a project.  It would certainly be of interest to some scenery devs if they could have some funding in place before they commit to the work.  This model could be applied to many different projects and we are all aware which devs produce stuff of a decent quality.

I am aware of a few, however, I do not want to miss someone that might be particularly appropriate. Thus the request.

The other unknown, is who would be interested in taking on the burden of such a project? An unfettered altruistic development schedule is different from that of a pseudo paid product.

If there is an airport, modern with sufficient ability and sufficient interest to tackle this sort of thing, please, DM me

Sounds risky, as there's be no guarantee that the expected level of quality and accuracy, is delivered.

What if a dev is crowdfunded, then what they deliver only matches (or does not even match) the quality of the ImagineSim version?  (rhetorical question).

That’s the reason I’d like someone invested in the community with a proven track record of delivering brilliant products altruistically. That sort of person shouldn’t be too much of an ethical risk.

Still, it may not be for you. I understand. For me, KATL is important enough to wager $5. Horses for courses mate.

I would chip in for a good proven developer to toss his/her hat into developing Atlanta.

JetLine Systems Gravity GT2-Windows 10 Home Edition (64-Bit), NZXT H500 Mid-Tower, Black, Gigabyte Aorus Z390 PRO WIFI, LGA 1151, Intel 9th Gen Core i9 9900K (5.0GHz Turbo) 8 Core / 16 Thread, Corsair Hydro H60 120mm Liquid Cooling, 32GB Corsair DDR4 SDRAM 3000MHz RGB, 12GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, GDDR6, 750 Watt Corsair RM Series Power Supply, 5.1 Channel Realtek Integrated HD Audio, Primary SSD Drive:1TB Samsung 970 EVO, M.2 NVMe PCIe (SSD), Secondary SSD Drive:2TB Samsung 970 EVO, M.2 NVMe PCIe (SSD) 4TB WD Black 7200 RPM Mechanical , SimOn Solutions 737 Professional Compact Trainer (MIP, OH). I’d crowd fund an airport scenery but not an airplane. Remember AirSimmer back in the day lol

World's busiest airport, but no descent model yet. Makes me wonder, what's so different about KATL? It's not situated near some large photogrammetry city like London or New York.

The Seattle area has at least three very detailed airports and city enhancements that I own and use together with all enhancements turned on, yet while it does drop my FMS some, I fly comfortably in VR. (I fly Ga).

So, if it's not the location, what's so different?

Take a look at James Daniels KLGA over on TO.  Its freeware.  Perhaps he can be pursuaded to take on KATL. Most of his work has been for smaller regional airports, mostly in the SE USA, but KLGA looks very good.  Understand my perspective is from one who never wanders into the terminal buildiings, parking lots, or vehicle/luggage arrival/departure/drop areas.  I only care about the flying side and related look and accuracy.

Agreed Frank- no Barrista stops for me- good apron clutter, accurate taxi and navaids, and area representation do it for me.

@cavricooper Perhaps @vbazillio can be persuaded to step out of his comfort zone (small but very nice GA airports)?

  • Author

Absolutely. I’ve pinged Sergio. Perhaps reach out.

It a comprehensive task, but I believe the renumeration would make it worthwhile .

You perfectly described the situation. An airport like KATL is way out of my comfort zone. Even with professional skills it requires a team effort ! But I'm so proud someone think of me for that 😉
