Intermittent Flashing Flying at night with Frame Gen

Featured Replies

I am experiencing some flashing while flying at night using frame gen. Some times I think it has to do with using FSTL, not sure.   Not sure if its the weather conditions.

Ideas or thoughts with settings?

Thanks in advance.

FG is really just AI-interpolated frames, hence the issues with flickering lights or artifacts, and clipping at low frame rates.
How is the frame rate otherwise? Are lighting conditions changing? Time of day?

Lots of things possible here. More info is needed.

No mystery here. If Frame Gen is on, DX12 is on. Random flashing is a known artifact in the BETA implementation of DX12 in MSFS2020.  We can only hope for resolution in MSFS 2024 it seems.

Mystery solved.  Perhaps back to no frame gen and  DX11.

I've never experienced this. Are you using Gsync? Freesync?

Is it possible Fgen with DX11

Try setting motion blur to low if using dx12.

I've used the Frame Gen mod since it's release, flashing is caused when Bloom is active (I believe this is a know bug in MSFS) and, with the latest update, and sometimes when you click off the active flight sim window if you are using two or more screens. You will also get the odd small artifact now and again. Overall the gains from using FG far outweigh the odd glitch.

Thanks for the tips. I will try setting bloom to low or off.

No, FG requires DX12.

I have flashes in some airplane under certain circumstances . I do not use frame generator but I do use g-sync. i have found on internet that intermittent flashing related to G-sync. It's not unique to MSFS but other games as well

I only have these artifacts when FG is on so I've turned it off but keep DX12 on for best performance.  I have no idea where the claim that these artifacts with FG relate to DX12 comes from.

For some, but not for me.  I greatly value rock solid, flicker-free imagery at 38fps with zero judder when moving between screens than a frame rate of 60 or 70 or 80.  Bloom on or off makes no difference here.
