@Microsoft:

- MSFS 2024, rated E for Everyone

- MSFS 2024 Military Edition, rated for everybody but the kids.

There, you can still sell to everybody. What's the issue with making a special edition with weapons, if there is still a "standard" edition that you can see  to everybody ?

Why not? Because:

  1. MSFS doesn't have the fast jet flight, nor the ballistic, dynamics to be competitive with other games. It's not a simple process to get those right without affecting other aircraft FDE.
  2. OLOD late pop-up. Can you imagine being blasted out of the sky by a SAM or AAM and only be aware of the enemy after the kill has occurred? Given the short LOD in MSFS, SAM launchers and enemy aircraft wouldn’t be visible until close proximity to them. (Even if flying low in an attack helicopter, OLOD would be frustratingly near).
  3. How does MS prevent crossover from 'Military Edition' into civilian 'E for Everyone' version? With some hacks, it may be quite easy for players to cross the boundary into the civilian version if the platform is fundamentally the same. There would need to be a fair bit of work by Asobo/MS to ensure that can never happen for various reasons.

I would love to see a sequel to Combat Flight Simulator WWII Europe Series with MSFS graphics, that would be something very special.

Nobody denies the fact that weapons/balistic are complex to model. But complex doesn't mean impossible. And the only reason why such technology is missing right now is because they don't work on it... and they would, if a military edition would be planned.

Weapons/balistics don't need to be linked to objects LOD. In fact, nothing prevents them from implementing a completely separate setting. You're just thinking about this like Captainsim weapons or VRS TacPack, which are nothing more than workarounds. I'm talking about new developments, new features. Current limitations are not relevant.

Weaponery and they effect are limited to the sims that recognize them. If MSFS 2024 "Rated E" doesn't have weapons, then the players will just see a bunch of flighters and helos flying by.

The point is: the whole point about "Microsoft wants to keep FS rating" is non-sense. They just need to create a separate "CombatFS" as a different game that simply use the same scenery servers. Military AI could be run locally on our computers, exactly like DCS for example, or on a dedciated server for global coverage. Then they would be able to sell additional packages/theaters.

I agree that the age rating thing is a non issue. Just look at a game like Halo series age ratings..Teen or Mature and massive sales with a fair proportion of players younger than the rating implies

Most everyone ignores those ratings and microsoft know that

As I write this, Asobo is struggling to publish SU15 after several delays. It seems that at least one of the difficulties is a WASM problem related with the instrumentation.
To add to MSFS the simulation of modern military avionics, electronic warfare, radars, countermeasures, thermal signatures, missile fliying dinamics, etc, and the cross interaction of this systems in multiplayer to MSFS may be theorically possible but, nevertheless, a huge and tremendously complex task.

Well this is unexpected (sarcasm...), some more waiting, more delays, some more delays and more waiting, probably a few weeks (or months) of more waiting incoming for the SU15 in the WAITING SIMULATOR 2020.

Where even the delays are getting delayed, the 777 that was announced to be released in the next two months (which was two months ago) also getting delayed for some more weeks  -  or maybe months nobody knows, maybe in mid summer the next "statement about how great and fast the progress is, way faster than expected!" will be published, followed by announcing a few more months of delay one line below. Maybe SU15 is now getting delayed to FS2024 and the Black Square Duke till 2026 and the 777 until the next solar eclipse ........ tz.... whatever.

Almost four full years of waiting to have only one other airliner than the A320 I have already mastered is finally enough. Here are countless AAA-study-level-top-notch planes waiting Yiiiiiihaa!! 😄 FLYING awaits instead of delays & waiting & delays & waiting & delays & waiting for all eternity until the sun flames out. Studying the awesome cockpit systems on YouTube for hours and enjoying photorealistic cockpit visuals, lovely. The HeatBlur Phantom is incoming:

Of course the war topic that stands behind the DCS is not for everyone, I personally had no interest in fighting with these airplanes for years, but only enjoyed the pure speed and photorealistic cockpits and the iconic action-movie and eighties feeling while flying these monsters especially in VR.

Until I found out how sophisticated and deep and fascinating the systems (and also targeting systems) with radar and infrared are, hours of exiting challenge to learn these too - so much more to do and to learn not only flying. The RIO seat of the F-14 is unrivaled. Not everyone who likes jets is a warmonger, I love the eighties electronics and systems and computers in these planes, and the action-movie flair that surrounds them.

Yep. I got into DCS because I wanted the challenge of landing on a carrier and the options in P3d were um... Less than awesome.

Then like you, I discovered the immense systems depth in the F18 and F16 and started learning it. And of course, in order to learn it you have to use it, which means it's time to learn BFM which is also fun.

My limitation in DCS is that I've sunk all my hardware money into civilian stuff - Fulcrum yoke, Bravo, etc. Not real useful for fighters, and the T1600M is, while decent, not precise enough for things like smooth aerial refueling. So now I'm toying with getting a really nice HOTAS setup, preferably one that's reversible so the stick can double as an Airbus sidestick. 😉

Don't folks have enough choice of simulated wars (air, sea, land), and fight games today, probably more than 80% of games are about conflicts, combat and other abominations? Let MSFS be a "civil" and peaceful game and, should one be unable to "survive" this predicament, buy one of these numerous titles dedicated to what the human race seems to adore so much. Rating or no rating!

I know that, when writing this post, I commit a capital crime today, I dare referring to moral values, and I should know better that this word is dead!
