Can't Launch the Sim

Featured Replies

I'm pretty observant when it comes to these things as my sim has been running flawlessly for well over a year. These symptoms started for me as soon as the latest beta testing started for SU15 a few months ago.

Sim not loading, checking for updates, minimized window, "Please Insert Disc" even though its a digital download, taking upwards of 15 minutes to load after a system reboot etc etc etc

I'm cautiously optimistic that this weeks proposed arrival of the update will fix all the above.

This just happened to me for the first time ever.  I got stuck on the updates page with nothing happening.  I went to the task manager and closed the sim and restarted MSFS which it did.  It asked me if I wanted to start in safe or normal mode, I selected normal, and everything booted up.  A few of my display settings were oddly fouled up but thankfully my controllers were all good.  Not sure this will help but wanted to share my experience.  Good Luck!

I've tried everything,  Doing a repair didn't help, doing a reinstall didn't either.

Is it visible in the XBOX app? Maybe uninstall from there...

Yep, did that.  No change.

reinstalled mine and fixed it.  But strange that this happened to so many people.

Probably a glitch with a server. No need to reinstall full sim. Just wait for a hour or two

I've been waiting for over a week.

Well, I'm totally stuck.  I know there's a final update due soon, and I'll have to hope that fixes something, or else I'll have to give up and go back to P3D.

So i have had a similar problem.  Sim wont load, xbox app wont update when I try to open it.

I found a link on the Microsoft help forums here: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/games-apps/troubleshooting/gaming-services-repair-tool

The download is in the Downloadable version section.

I ran this and it fixed my issue.

The next week again Sim wouldnt open again so I ran the exe downloaded from that link and the Sim booted again.

I hope this helps you.

I logged out and in again and had to do this 3 times, now it's running an update. Yesterday I got an email "We received your request for a single-use code to use with your Microsoft account." which I did not request since it was 4:00 am local time. Might be something to do with it.

Well, it's too bad.  I really enjoyed using MSFS.  Today I launched using the XBox app, and there was the option to update.  But even after having done that, I get the splash screen and then it goes black and nothing more happens.  I have tried different ways of running it, repairing it, reinstalling it, all to no avail.

For the last day or two, I have been unable to run MSFS.  It just hangs at one of the opening screens.  For example, I have it running right now in another window, and it was stopping at the black screen.  But this time is sitting at "Checking for Updates," and it has been like that for a while.

This happened to my sim sometimes in 2022 during SU-release-weeks, one time I was not able to launch the sim for a week, eternal stuck on the early loading screen with the rotating circle. Suddenly one day an update popped up instead of the empty loading screen and everything was fine again. 😺

If you have truly fast internet re-installing the sim over night or switching to Beta version might remove the hung loading screen, but the problem normally always solves itself as soon as the update appears.

But it was my understanding that the update was already available,  Is that not correct?
