777 Short Flights, is it viable

"Back in the days" I used to do a lot of long-hauls in FS9 and in FSX. With the memory limitation, this was always a challenge, especially if you flew out of one of those non-optimized airports like Aerosoft's EDDF. More often than not, your wheels were barely off the ground, and you started to hear the familiar ding ding ding that announced that you were hitting the memory limit, only to stare at your desktop seconds later.

Haha yes happy days! Except with me it usually seemed to happen just as I was about to land 😡

  • No. Anything less than 7 hours of flight on the 777 causes the FAA to turn up at your home, delete your copy of the PMDG 777 and smash your PC into pieces... 🙃   Of course it's fine. Here ar

Have a friend who recently flew the 777 on this same exact route as a repo flight also from a diversion. Said it was a ton of fun. So it does happen! Back in the FSX days, I used to fly the MD-11

I have the plane in my hangar and I can't really see what's so bad about it and I have the Fenix A320 and again I can't see what's supposed to be so much better in terms of the texture. In any case, I don't think the texturing is so bad that it would be a reason not to get the AC if you would like to have it..

cheers 😉

I am definitely tempted but I recently did a printout of all my orders with PMDG and they've already taken such a large chunk of my cash over the years - sometimes for (imo) pretty marginal differences between products/ generations - that I've become slightly wary 😉

Try to fly an RNAV approach with the 777 (without IAN), and let me know what happens. Anyway I don't buy anything more from PMDG because their lack of long term support of their airplanes, DC6 above all.

Flew two Rnav approaches yesterday, no problems at all.

I did KPAE-KBFI, don't think it gets much shorter than that 🙂

Was actually a great flight and now I will deliver her from KBFI to her home base at KEWR 🙂

Have a Wonderful Day

In the p3d versions it was lacking of IAN, no app button working with RNAV for 777. Maybe Boeing introduced it in the meantime?

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

And now the Aviaworks FMC for the PMDG which you can use for example on a Tablet is out and working, i use it since yesterday and yes that is just great and feels realy cool..🙃

That’s great! I use the MCDU on my iPad all the time in the Fenix, great to have the same option for the 777.

On my 2nd flight, and I noticed the gross weight is much higher after loading via the FMC vs what I’ve got in Simbrief. I’m probably doing something wrong.

Also, the cargo loading with GSX did not fit the aircraft. It’s early days, so issues like these will probably get sorted.

It seems like a great aircraft, and not as tricky to get into as I thought before getting it. The FMC is still very unfamiliar after years of flying the 320, but I’m getting there.

Pretty sure on RNAV you didn't use the APP button, set the ALT window to your minimums & the aircraft did the rest. Once below the minimums you then set the GA ALT.

It's been quite a while, but RNAV was fine, just very different from the NGx. Can't remember ever trying visual to see if IAN was there though - is it in RW 777?..

Edit: Further reading suggest that RNAV is meant to be flown in LNAV/VNAV and the 200/300 lack IAN.
