I flew my first flight today, and loading the aircraft with fuel for a 550 mile flight, gave me a V1 which was about the same as it would be in the 737, and the same for the approach with a low V ref.. I landed on a 8500 foot runway with plenty of room to spare, so this aircraft is fine for the typical short flights that I fly. BTW, it flies great. Landing was spot on, around 150 FPM. Just imagine the VC-25A(747-200). It's flights can be as long as 19 or more hours or as short as 20 minutes. It routinely does short flights and the VC-25B(747-8) will do the same. Buy that 777 and fly it how ever you want😁 Edited June 26, 20241 yr by G550flyer edit Rick D http://g5flyer.tumblr.com/

It was a Pan AM 747, and they were seeing if it was feasible to pick up passengers at KFLL, and fly to Miami, load more passengers and fuel for an extended flight. Distance between the two airports about 12 miles. The runway at KFLL ( 9L) at the time was a bit over 7,000 feet if I recall. I got to visit the flight deck prior to this flight. They did have to run up and down the runway , prior to take off, with some airport cars, to make sure there were no obstacles or lights that they might hit. They made the takeoff with some room to spare, but not much. They decided after that test flight, that it wasn't worth it, so never went further with the idea. Edited June 26, 20241 yr by Bobsk8

Awesome, that's how it was back then before all of the regional jets. Jets like the DC-9 and 727 brought those small airports to the jet age. I have seen where operators are starting to look at options like that again. They are looking at having long range jets depart a smaller airport, fly long range to land at another smaller airport. The 747 generates so much lift that the takeoff and approach speeds are not that high when compared to some other jets. Take the DC-10-30s that I flew. The 747-400 at max landing weight has an approach speed of about 152 at 630,000. The DC-10-30 had an approach speed of 157/151 flaps 35/50 at 436,000. At lower weights, that 747 can get into some short runways without issues. But, in the cooperate world or business aviation, short legs are normal. If your jet happens to be a 777, it will do short legs lol. Only issue is the support you will need at those small airports. In biz jets like the G550, you need zero support. It has enough performance that you can tanker in gas and still have long range from airports that have zero support and no fuel. Rick D http://g5flyer.tumblr.com/
June 26, 20241 yr When they release the 200er you can do quite a few real world ual flights between hubs. June 26, 20241 yr I had the pleasure of asking someone who is a 777 training captain about this during the P3D days. His response was that most airports into which a 737-800 might fly was suitable for a 777 from an aviation standpoint. Real airlines wouldn't use the larger, more capable aircraft for economic reasons, but since most all of us are just sitting at our desks simulating flight on our home computers, this would hardly be of any significance. If that desk doesn't break your immersion, the simulated city pair certainly shouldn't. Have fun up there. No. Anything less than 7 hours of flight on the 777 causes the FAA to turn up at your home, delete your copy of the PMDG 777 and smash your PC into pieces... 🙃 Of course it's fine. June 26, 20241 yr there is a company in KSWF with a private 777 available for charter.. I am sure they fly some short legs on that beautiful jet too.. I have seen it in real life Polaris Aviation

June 26, 20241 yr About 15 years ago, I flew an IRL flight on a 777-??? from Orlando to Atlanta. About a 40 minute flight. Likely Delta, because I remember being bumped to 1st class. The remaining four and a half hour hop from ATL to LAX was economy on a 737. June 27, 20241 yr World not allowed @Bobsk8, you shouldn’t make threads like this! I had made a pact with myself not to buy this one. But have to admit that it’s getting hard to resist. How’s performance? It’s probably discussed in the mega-thread, but… 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
