777 Short Flights, is it viable

Featured Replies

I was debating whether or not to get the 777, because my typical flights on A Pilots Life are around 1 1/2 hours. I flew my first flight today, and loading the aircraft with fuel for a 550 mile flight, gave me a V1 which was about the same as it would be in the 737, and the same for the approach with a low V ref..  I landed on a 8500 foot runway with plenty of room to spare, so this aircraft is fine for the typical short flights that I fly. BTW, it flies great. Landing was spot on, around 150 FPM.

  • No. Anything less than 7 hours of flight on the 777 causes the FAA to turn up at your home, delete your copy of the PMDG 777 and smash your PC into pieces... 🙃   Of course it's fine. Here ar

Have a friend who recently flew the 777 on this same exact route as a repo flight also from a diversion. Said it was a ton of fun. So it does happen! Back in the FSX days, I used to fly the MD-11

There are plenty of short routes in the T7 in the States. For example, there are daily morning flights KDEN-KIAH using it to transport a large number of tourists connecting to Central and South American destinations in Houston.

The T7 lightly loaded can be a ton of fun, so powerful.

Of course...Air Canada uses 777-300er for their CYYZ to CYUL and back on a seasonal and demand basis....check it out.

Bob,

I’m not exactly sure, but doesn’t flightaware allow for sorting by type and duration?

Cheers,

Pete

Yes it does.

My typical flight in the 777f is about 800 miles, occasional long haul in it, although always short enough that I can go at max cruise !!..

In Japan, have they replaced their (short) Tokyo-Osaka 747 routes with 777 equipment?  I am not sure.  But I do know they fly short routes with widebody airplanes over there, for certain high-density routes like Tokyo-to-Osaka.  Something to look into anyway if you want to simulate real world routes.  But as was said, it's a sim, fly where or how you want.

Indeed, my first RW flight on a T777-300 was from CYUL to CYYZ (Montreal to Toronto).  A one hour flight.

Emirates use the 77W to operate to Muscat, 200 miles!

IRL, when I was working in Riyadh, I was forever on the 1 1/2 hour B777 morning / evening flight to Jeddah.

From Dubai the 777 operates to all the nearby GCC countries - Doha is a 45 minute flight!
