pmdg777 sound pack

This is absolutely not true.  If you had any flightdeck experience you would know that the "whine" and "buzzsaw" you hear from a jet engine should change dynamically with airspeed and altitude both.  Ive talked with pmdgs sound guy about this and they refuse to acknowledge this point.  The ftsim pack fixes this issue among other issues with the pmdg sounds such as the "air raid siren" at mid level n1.

If the PMDG sound guy thinks their sound package is without fault then he must fit in perfectly with RSR, peak narcissism.

No, not to me, its already a good sound set but everyone has their own taste but it suits me just well... cheers 😉

  • To be fair, they don't suck.  But they can be better

Okay, firstly this in my own opinion, everyone's is different. I am a Licenced Aircraft Engineer and have worked on 777's for 25 years. I've have done more engine runs, both at idle power and full power than I care to count, but not more than most 777 pilots. The PMDG sounds, if you listen carefully are fairly accurate, but lack a little depth. The distinctive 'growl' is certainly lacking for me, and certain ranges need adjusting. I've listened to the new sound package offered, and other than being a little louder, offers nothing to the package for me, but, I did listen to it on Youtube, so it may well sound different in the sim. I'm happy to stick with the current sounds for now until a better solution is available, or hopefully PMDG update theirs.

Oh, I've also flown on the 777 countless times, both in the cabin, and in the flight deck.

The powerplant sounds are off the mark. Engine start should have more of a noticeable groan rising in crescendo until light off.
The sounds on approach are more like a siren and well off the mark. On approach the auto throttles are too sensitive (but better than the other way around). The rest of the sounds are ok and who really cares about the cabin?

Not too knowledgeable, but, educate me...

While I know PMDG products are considered among the best, it's also true that they are also among the most expensive. And although they are some of the most expensive, are you telling me that the sound sucks..?

By the videos seen, the sound is awful

In general terms, the default PMDG 777 sounds have never really been bad.  But this time, I feel like i'm more disappointed than with previous P3D/FSX versions.   However, I have also listened to the current Patreon replacement and I don't feel it is that much better.

if youd had some flightdeck experience you know theres alot of whining in the flight deck 🙂, normally about annual leave, being called out from standby/reserve or not getting your bids again.
