ORBX releasing a new Tree product

Featured Replies

Not sure which one is Africa or where it is taken (massive continent and wide ecological diversity) but absolutely none of them are remotely convincing. Asobo defaults in Africa are somewhat decent.

  • Don't see the point in this other than 'get it released before MSFS2024 comes along.' You'd either have already bought Bijan Seasons or Rex AccuSeason. Alternatively, you weren't bothered enough

Well, to me, it looks like a massive improvement. REX and Bijan, if I'm not mistaken, simply change the colouring of the default trees, this Orbx mod seems to replace the default trees with totally ne

Very believable!  Unless you would rather have them all removed and a warning issued!  Your choice!

So just to be clear: No more than 4 pictures per post? So i can post multiple times, all with 4 pictures each? There can be a string of 5 posts, each containing 4 pictures?

Reads like fact. Which it isn't. It's an opinion, which for the record, I disagree with completely. At least this product doesn't have this totally over the top fall and winter colors, making everything unnaturally brown, like REX. How come most of you like this so much, while it is as far as one can get from depicting the real world?

I just did a flight in southern California - the trees in the Orbx product are a major upgrade to the resolution and colour of trees.  Very impressed!

Bijan's still works great, and has had a large variety of custom, regional-correct veg for years.  I've compared it to Rex in many regions and there was never a time I didn't prefer Bijan's; it was always more accurately varied.  Rex has a tendency to pick just a few tree models and repeat them.  In PNG you get entire forests of nothing but palm trees for instance.

Hard to see a reason to move off of Bijan's.

NO!  No more than 2 pics and these pics are to show problems in the Sim.  Otherwise you will be classified as a shill or tout for that product.

If you feel the need to post a bunch of pics, use the screenshot forum for that!

We get many complaints from other members who are using their phones to scan through these discussion forums
and screenshots take a long time to form.

Large amounts of shots can be posted (keeping within the screenshots guidelines) and then link them to your post
in this discussion forum

The Orbx HD trees are far, far more detailed AND better coloured than Bijan's or Rex.  The video posted above doesn't do them justice.

On a bit of a side note...  Looks like Bijan is back and doing waterfalls now.  I saw some over on FS.to.

Corrects excessive tree size?

I have just installed it. I will check the tree size (by flying the drone down the street where I live, I know how the trees look there). First I have to boot MSFS which takes about 8 minutes for me.

Orbx trees are gigantically tall and wide. So are the Asobo trees. They block the residential streets where I live. Both Asobo default and Orbx.

The tree height mod flightsim.to shortens them (not Orbx). A simple text file in that mod's folders shows min and max tree heights for each specie. You can edit that and make them even shorter. I did that 2 years ago and used my modified version of the tree height mod at flightsim.to (free).

MSFS randomly makes every tree a height between the Min and Max numbers on the line for the specie of every single tree it is generating as it compiles scenery for a flight.

The same file sets the min and max for bushes and grass too.

EDIT: dissapointing that Orbx did not shorten their trees

Flying around low, but too low at 800 to 2000 feet, everything looks nicer in my city with this Orbx tree mod.

As I understand it, there is a reason Orbx and Asobo did not shorten the trees down to normal size. Scenery objects pops in and out based on two things: LOD and object size. Smaller things pop in and out more frequently (i.e. at shorter distances). So, it's a trade off. Normal size trees are going to be appearing and disappearing more often as you fly.
