ORBX releasing a new Tree product

As others have said, I don't feel Orbx is up to the job a lot of the time these days.

Everyone has an opinion.
This tree product is excellent but unless it is owned and used, the opinion is someone else's.

What seems to have been overlooked by many, is that just like an airport model, if two add-ons for the same
place are installed, then the result is inevitably anomalies.
The only difference is that in this case, the "place" is the entire simulator.
This has been the case for at least 30 years and yet still the question is "will these add-ons work together?"

  • Don't see the point in this other than 'get it released before MSFS2024 comes along.' You'd either have already bought Bijan Seasons or Rex AccuSeason. Alternatively, you weren't bothered enough

    Well, to me, it looks like a massive improvement. REX and Bijan, if I'm not mistaken, simply change the colouring of the default trees, this Orbx mod seems to replace the default trees with totally ne

I went on the ORBX forum and according to Nick, it has to be a defective Photogrammetry in MSFS because the shapes, many of which look like pointed objects point to that.  If the shapes were square or block like, then there has to be a file that conflicts and has to contain the 10-asobo_species.xml.

I have checked every scenery folder in my Community Folder, and searched Vegetation and opened everything I could find.  I have NO conflicting files and certainly none that contain 10-asobo_species.xml.

The only program in my Community folder that contains that xml. file is ORBX HD Trees.

Edited by spilok

I had the block like tree problem the first time I used the sim with Global Trees HD - never have used Accuseason or Bjain stuff.  I did find that when I moved ShortestTreesARIFSTUDIOSV5 out of Community - the block tree issue ended.

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D  / MSI X870 Tomahawk Mobo / 64 GB DDR5 memory / RTX 4070 Super with 12 GB VRAM / AORUS FO48U 4k display
 NVMe for Drive C, an NVMe device dedicated to Flight Sim 2024 and a separate NVMe device for Flight Sim 2020 and an NVMe dedicated to 500GB of addons managed by AddonsLinker   / 1 GB Comcast Xfinity Internet connection / HP Reverb G2 / Tobii 5 Head & Eye Tracking

I removed my own modified short tree app too. And just use the Orbx product (it is very cheap).

I see no reason that the Orbx 10-asobo_species.xml file cannot be edited in notepad like any other .xml file. Just as I did with the short tree mod. I just haven't got around to changing those 100 or so lines of min and max numbers. At that point I would have both fewer trees and shorter trees.

To see which numbers to change just put up 10-asobo_species.xml from the tree mod and 10-asobo_species.xml from the Orbx mod side by side on the screen. And then start changing the value numbers in the Orbx version to look like the numbers in the tree mod version. Poof! Shorter trees!

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

So I now started out with my plan to reduce tree size in the Orbx mod.

Here is the first height line in Asobo default:

<Size min="15" max="20"/>

--

Here is same line in Orbx version:

<Size min="9" max="14"/>

--

My old modified version I made 2 years ago:

<Size min="9" max="12"/>

The other lines for other species are similar. What this tells me is that Asobo has decreased the tree height (as well as the number of trees). But they haven't decreased them quite as much as I did.

Conclusion: Orbx mod reduces both the tree height and the number of trees.

If you yourself edit the Orbx mod, your edit will be overwritten whenever you use the Orbx season and grass selector app.

The easy way to reduce both tree height and number is just to use the Orbx mod and edit nothing manually. Only a picky nerd, like me, might go further.

Last night I first removed REX Accuseason, then installed the ORBX Tree HD. I like it, looks great. I was flying around central UT, USA.

Apparently it will argue with the REX Accuseason so I already own that.

Me too. You just open Accuseason and completely un-install the mods before you install the ORBX mod. There is an option in Accuseason to do this.

If you don't, you might be looking at re-installing MSFS to fix it.

I prefer the Bijan's deep rich colors and foliage density.Something about the lighting and shadow maps working better with his trees just gives a ton more depth to the overall image.
