ORBX releasing a new Tree product

Featured Replies

So when the two gentlemen are done peddling a completely different product and patting each other on the back over it, would be nice to see some more comparisons from actual users. The tree models themselves look amazing, very defined which I feel is missing sometimes when you're sitting at an airport and just looking into those blobs of trees and treelines but can't really get a feeling for how it looks outside of the marketing shots. Seems people are just having issues with it, in terms of height, coloring etc. ?

  • Don't see the point in this other than 'get it released before MSFS2024 comes along.' You'd either have already bought Bijan Seasons or Rex AccuSeason. Alternatively, you weren't bothered enough

Well, to me, it looks like a massive improvement. REX and Bijan, if I'm not mistaken, simply change the colouring of the default trees, this Orbx mod seems to replace the default trees with totally ne

I've flown quite a bit with Orbx trees this week but to be honest I haven't noticed a huge difference vs default. Maybe that's just me. I've only flown around Ireland and Scotland though. Perhaps I need to go look at the comparison screenshot from Orbx website.

From where I sit, I get very angry when devs start using terms like HD to describe their products. HD, meaning high definition, it's a roll off term from high definition TV. It's a bit like that old game of adding the term 'pro' on the end of everything, then people think they're buying something special and of quality, when in most cases it's anything but that! So I have yet to see Orbx HD trees showing any improved definition over the default trees. I would like to be proved wrong and hear from anyone who sees it as a visual improvement over the default trees.

There seems to be an unerring ability to pull the negative out of anything positive.
Setting aside the spurious disagreement about two incompatible products, both
to Orbx HD trees and this topic, these tree models do appear to be much better
than the default ones, especially the trees within a tree that tower over everything else:

Oh look, it's you again, with your weird relationship to Bijan and your constant need to defend / peddle his products, even when he's abandoned them, you can turn an entire thread into a Bijan sales pitch.

And "false narrative" when he MADE A VIDEO HIMSELF claiming so, which he also went back on apparently, showing his wildly erratic nature he's that also shone through in his product support; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GR86e47bJdQ

Try again mr. astroturf, notice how the ORBX PRODUCT THREAD has magically been turned into a Bijan circlejerk with you at the helm? Funny that.

I've just given you 3 locations where Bijan frequents lately...not sure why you are still venting to us over here about it.

Hope you two can resolve your issues, so you can finally move on to something else already.

You're welcome! Take care!

Alright, your attention seeking behaviour has been noted. Now you can stop derailing the thread with your product peddling.

Thanks for that. Hmm, it's really hard to say with these. The green colour in some scenes seems a bit off, others it looks alright. Once you gain any distance from the trees, they just seem to switch a LOD model that resembles the same fuzzy / basic tree rendering model that both default and other tree addons have. Think that probably echoes what you're saying Piett, hard to pick out any discernible differences.

Personally I find the Orbx trees much more detailed than default or the other offerings. Colour also is very good.

MSFS 2024 is coming out in a few months with 3D trees. Kind of makes the Orbx trees not worth it, in my opinion.

I think so. To notice the differences, one probably need to get very close e.g. with the drone cam. Even though I’ve done a lot of GA low altitude (below 500ft) flying recently, it’s hard to notice the difference.

I’m also getting some oddly pale/translucent trees 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ve removed other tree addons though (previously used REX).

I can compare myself to a smoker - I could easily have an MSFS addon habit of twenty a day 😁

I find myself in the same situation. I am just ignoring them for now, but not at all sure why there would be so many trees that are basically only partly there.

What makes REX AccuSeason very different than the 'others', it has a cool feature which automatically and gradually changes the vegetation to reflect the seasons. Instead of big jumps between seasons, it automatically subtly adjusts things every week. This makes it feel more like the real world, where you see a slow shift in the environment.

For the price of 1 cocktail at my favorite restaurant, it’s worth it for almost 4 months.

True. I wonder if something similar will be natively implemented in 2024. And whether there’s going to be any market for tree/season addons.
