Is It Time to Give Up?

I'm pretty sure there are people here with a fault in BIOS or interfering software that makes using MSFS impossible to use well or to fix so that it does. And probably few people here, if any, could easily fix it for them. Some people with big issues in MSFS are not necessarily lazy nor word not allowed of how to use computers well.

I haven't had much trouble with the sim myself.

Personally I think you should reset bios as suggested and then vanilla install the sim. The last time I performed a reformat on my computer was in 2014. I think reformatting and reinstalling a fresh c

  • I had  reinstall MSFS completely from the scratch twice! I also had to install it again when I bought new PC. Our hobby comes with many caveats and sometimes it require a fresh start!

  • When MSFS2020 was released four years ago it was made very clear, for those who bothered to read the detailed announcement, that this was something entirely new in flightsimming: a work in progress wi

I've had my moments with MSFS 2020.  I had about 8 months of constant CTDs over a year ago.  Uninstalled every add-on and did clean installs (deleting out all files manually) and same thing.  Default 172 would CTD in a few minutes.  Many blamed my hardware (odd that it only impacted MSFS and none of my other games).  FWIW I've got 25+ years working in IT, so I do know how to troubleshoot.

Then one sim update released so I updated and gave it a try... no CTDs.  Reinstalled all my addons and haven't had a hiccup since.  Same exact hardware.  I found a few people with the exact same video card that had a similar issue.  Best I could tell, something about that particular card was causing issues.  Various driver versions wouldn't help.

Just pointing out that it is not always hardware.  I've put in countless hours since and not a single issue.  Just something for the "it works great for me" crowd, consider yourself lucky you haven't had one of these really odd issues.

It happens sometimes.  I was away from this hobby from 2009-2017.    What went on during that time?     MS Flight?  Anything else?

A new PC build with an Intel i9 and an ASUS MB with an over-charged BIOS pretty much shut down MSFS for me for about a month.  Once I replaced the wrecked chip and reset the BIOS with more conservative (and appropriate) settings the sim is running well.

Asus has now released MB drivers that prevent this from happening, according to this video at 10:27. It is the MB and not the cpu itself which is at fault, they say here.

Yes - the MB and it's default BIOS were the apparent issue.  I had to replace the processor as it had been damaged by this - the new one is still humming.
