Is It Time to Give Up?

Right below it is the XBox app.  I have tried running it from the ap, from the default desktop icon, from the modified icon that skips the intro movies, in safe and standard more, all with the same result.  I've never tried booting Windows into safe mode to try running it, is that what you are suggesting?

psolk, the only way to get rid of that so I can use my computer to do something else is by using the Task Manager and killing the process.  So the executable is running.

I would definitely try the -fastlaunch espent mentions.  That's how I launch my sim.

If that doesn't work, I would take a long hard look at the XBox app or the things related to it like XBox gaming services.  You can re-install those.

Personally I think you should reset bios as suggested and then vanilla install the sim. The last time I performed a reformat on my computer was in 2014. I think reformatting and reinstalling a fresh c

Ok, I'm not familiar with that.  What is a fast launch and how do I do it?

I've never changed my BIOS settings, no overclocking or anything.  I don't want to reinstall Windows11 if I can avoid it, (don't think I could if I wanted to.   I don't know if I have the media anywhere.)

what about your pc specs? I think that the problem is related with something wrong with your video driver and/or audio driver, if not a hardware problem. Have you other 3d flight sim/games installed on your machine, and they are working correctly?

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

Have you simply consulted the windows event viewer to try and locate a faulting file? It has helped my diagnose pretty much every start up issue so far!

I think the starters of these threads already know the answer.

If I knew the answer, I would take care of it so I could use my flight sim.  As for the event viewer, it doesn't seem to show any issues.  That gives me the impression the system reaches a certain point where it hasn't actually failed, but won't go any further either.

I think in your situation I'd now be suspecting that SU15 - by making the PC work harder - has exposed something wrong with my kit: in descending order of likelihood, CPU, RAM, GPU, SSD, motherboard.

That's something you can eliminate by swapping out parts for alternatives, if you have them.

Otherwise, in your shoes, by now I'd definitely be doing a hard format of the SSD and a fresh Windows / software installation using fresh downloads (not backups: these might contain corrupt files).

Agony!!

Okay, here's something interesting.  Just tried going to check the version of my video driver, because when I start MSFS it sometimes tells me my version is out of date and may cause issues.  I got the following message, but it's the same connection I've always used, how can that be?

When I get to the point where it asks if I want to switch to safe mode, after a bit it starts playing video of going all around the different parts of the scenery, etc.

I know you say that your display is plugged in correctly, but this almost sounds like it is plugged into the motherboard on board graphics port. This would certainly explain the inability to load the demanding 3D portion of the game.

Hello Andy.

Just to verify:

Did you previously mention getting this message from MSFS in one of your posts here?

You got the message but did not update the driver at that time?

What is you video card and current version (with the problem)??

It depends on how old is you video driver. Updating drivers is not an option, sometimes is mandatory because the flight sim software evolves with the drivers and viceversa.

Whoa, that's interesting.  As @OneOfMany states, make sure you're not using onboard graphics.  Also make sure your vid card is fully seated and powered.  What card do you have?

Back in 2020 I ran into a problem with the MS purchased version simply failing to update over a period of weeks. I scoured the forums for fixes and tried all of them, including a full uninstall/reinstall.

I do too many other "important" things with my "gaming" desktop to make it feasible to wipe it and start again. And I wasn't having a single problem with any other apps, or other flight sims, to justify that drastic of an action.

So I bought the Steam Premium Deluxe version and haven't had a single problem since.

Maybe an "extreme" solution, but I weighed out the soft cost of time & hassle verses the hard cost of what amounts to just another Hi Fi addon, and it made more sense to do it. YMMV.
