Second that, i have this once ( the black window on start and never launch the sim ) and the Fast Launch make it useable again.

At later time i tried often the "normal" Launch and it did not work a long time but now it works again and i don`t know why and how.. ( maybe some update windows relaeted ? )

I haven't been able to run MSFS for a few months now.  I've opened previous threads trying to explain the issues I've been having since the rollout of the last update.  I've tried so many things that I've lost track.  The sim launches and then goes to a smaller, all black window and never goes any further.

Should I finally call it quits and give up?  I'd hate to do that after having been using this product for 25ish years.

have you tried a fresh clean install of windows and then MSFS? Don,t call it quits as It could be a corrupted files or a virus.  You should do a clean install of you PC

Didn't you say you also had trouble running P3D? If you can't run both P3D and MSFS, it's probably a problem with your computer. If you don't mind the loss of data, as others mentioned, a reinstall of Windows may fix the problem (although I would back up all your data before you reinstall Windows).

Before your reinstall Windows, you can try testing other games on your computer, especially if they are also flight simulators. For example, DCS World would be a good one to test, and they have a free version that you could test as well.

My process is normally as follows:

1.  Reset BIOS to default and run MSFS in a vanilla state after closing anything running in the background.  If that fails;

2.  Reinstall MSFS.  If that fails;

3.  Reinstall Windows and MSFS.

Unless there are any other clues that spring up such as overheating, you are overclocking anything or you spot any other spurious errors.

It's also worth unplugging and plugging everything back in including peripherals and mother board connections including CPU, graphics card, hard drives, etc.  Check all the cables are not showing signs of wear or damage.

Just double checking that your system clock is accurate....   Simplest little thing that will stop the entire sim from loading...

After a major update of my PC in January (first time in years) I operated MSFS with no issues.  About 3 months later MSFS began to crash on every flight or startup.  I also began having issues with other programs, to the point I could hardly read e-mails, etc.

After some research it appeared that there was a growing body of evidence that MB manufacturers were (via their BIOS settings) over-boosting some of the new processors (such as my i9) and basically destroying them.  I had my i9 replaced under warranty, then received a BIOS update from the MB manufacturer that had an option to reduce the voltages to more proper settings.  I've had no issues since.

The real irony here is that it was the DEFAULT BIOS settings that destroyed the original chip.  They were too aggressive.

Fortunately, MSFS20 bugs apart, my rig 5900x + 3080 is working very well. But I had few doubts about the temps because in this very hot summer I saw temps above 90°C with the Noctua DH15. After many tests adjusting the CPU config in the BIOS, I decided to disable the PBO (power boost overdrive) and magically the temps went around 80°C without any performance penalty under MSFS20. I tried many CPU configs in the bios and PBO enabled sending the frequencies over 5150MHz (in winter!), but I didn't see any appreciable perfomances. Now, with SVM (AMD virtual machine option) and PBO disabled, the CPU frequencies are going normally around 4950MHz with 5065MHz spikes and temps around 80°C. Finally the question is: does have any sense to overclock an AMD CPU? my answer: if you like high temps and about a 1% performance gain, yes!

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

I was in a similar situation in the past for several months. In my case, the cause of the issues was a totally unrelated software, a photo edition program called Capture One.
I discovered this threat only by pure luck and it was my exact problem just by chance:

I am not tech savvy enough to do this type of forensic analisys, but I put the link in case you can find something that could help you with diagnostic technics.

I think that's a good point. Recent AMD CPUs (I only have experience with the Ryzen 7000-series) runs much cooler than the Intel 14th gen. I've set up a -20 curve optimizer 150Mhz overclock, and temps generally stay below 70C. Currently in the 737-600 and avg core temps 53C with cores boosting to 5.1GHz (avg 4.8).

More related to this thread - since SU15 released, on a few occasions, I've had issues with the resolution suddenly changing from my native. When trying to change it back, the MSFS window goes black hence can't interact with it. I've solved it by shutting it down, then editing usercfg.opt to enable borderless full screen (which is usually enabled). A very strange issue.

Another thing: when the sim is stable and all is well, I take a backup (I just create a compressed file using 7zip). Then reinstalling won't take long.

Last thing: @abrams_tank had a great point a while back about XMP (which is a memory overclock) that caused the sim/PC to be unstable IIRC. The XMP overclock was enabled as he got the PC. XMP memory overclocks and motherboard-enabled CPU overclocks (as already mentioned in this thread) can occasionally cause issues. It's not necessarily good that gaming PC's are deliveried like this, as not everybody is comfortable changing BIOS settings.

Sorry about the lengthy post as not everything is related to the thread.

Ok, I'm not familiar with that.  What is a fast launch and how do I do it?

I've never changed my BIOS settings, no overclocking or anything.  I don't want to reinstall Windows11 if I can avoid it, (don't think I could if I wanted to.   I don't know if I have the media anywhere.)

I also recommend to record your current BIOS settings

Suggestion: take pictures of all your settings with your cell phone which is what I do when everything is working perfectly.

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).
