I did, of course, because it was part of the PBO process, but the perfomance gain was just 1%, the temps were cooler but when reaching 5150MHz spikes, they went at 85/90°C spikes. It's still safe at 95°C before the autothrottling, especially if it's just some temp spike, but I decided to disable the PBO completely, just running the CPU VDD voltage at -50. My room/cockpit is without air conditioner, so the temps here are about 30°C at noon, much better in the evening and at night.

Sorry if I missed the info but are your system specs anywhere?

If you have an nVidia I would at least try a  clean install of the STUDIO REFERENCE driver NOT the latest game or beta one. The studio driver is the most stable for people who work in gfx so stability is better.

You'd find it at Nvidia and when installing select CLEAN INSTALL which removes current driver and all settings giving you a clean slate.

If you are not nVidia this post is useless to you :D

Also, is MSFS from Steam or MS? Do you have any modern games (last 4 years) from Steam? I'd always check if other demanding entertainment software runs first. If it does NOT, the steam forums are packed with tips and solutions which may solve your MSFS issues via a backdoor.

I got MSFS from MS, and I only have one other game, which isn't recent.  Everything worked fine until the most recent update was pushed.  I was able to get a screenshot of what I see, but need to find a place where I can put it.  Doesn't seem as though I can add it to an Avsim post.

Okay, new to Imgur so I hope I did this right.

Once I hit the icon on the desktop, I see the splash screen, then it checks for updates.  Then it switches to a smaller, windowed screen and that's where it just hangs.  It used to be that it would go to that little screen and then right past it so quick I couldn't even see what it was doing.  But that isn't the case now.

I’m wondering if the black screen issue is the same that I’ve had occasionally. Do you know for certain that the sim is unresponsive? Or is it that you cannot interact with it due to the black image?

Well, like I said before, It used to be that it would go to that little screen and then right past it so quick I couldn't even see what it was doing. It never gets to the point where the sim is running.

Sorry to make this obvious suggestion - I'm sure you've tried it - but what happens if you click on the black screen and press "Alt-Enter" to send it into full screen mode?

Set TJMax at 85C and it won't run higher, I use -30 curve optimizer + TJMax at 85C with my 7800X3dD and it works very well.

What is shown/running just below your black screen?

Have you tried starting MSFS2020 in Windows Safe Mode?

If you do a Ctrl-Alt-Del does MSFS show running? I am almost wondering if something else is blocking the executable... 

Right below it is the XBox app.  I have tried running it from the ap, from the default desktop icon, from the modified icon that skips the intro movies, in safe and standard more, all with the same result.  I've never tried booting Windows into safe mode to try running it, is that what you are suggesting?

 

psolk, the only way to get rid of that so I can use my computer to do something else is by using the Task Manager and killing the process.  So the executable is running.
