Sim ended normally - Steam says "Stopping"

Featured Replies

I quit to desktop and sim ended (IMHO) normally.  When I next tried to start the sim using Steam/Play to launch it I found that Steam said the sim was still running.

Task Manager shows NO occurrence of the sim or any  of it's support programs.  No processes for the sim are running.

I told Steam to STOP the sim.  Steam then showed the Sim status to be STOPPING.  No tasks or processes shown by Task Manager show the sim running.

Shut down Steam and restarted it - still says MSFS is STOPPING.

What to do?

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D  / MSI X870 Tomahawk Mobo / 64 GB DDR5 memory / RTX 4070 Super with 12 GB VRAM / AORUS FO48U 4k display
NVMe for Drive C, an NVMe device dedicated to Flight Sim 2024 and a separate NVMe device for Flight Sim 2020 and an NVMe dedicated to 500GB of addons managed by AddonsLinker   / 1 GB Comcast Xfinity Internet connection / HP Reverb G2 / Tobii 5 Head & Eye Tracking

I have the same problem here for a long time....

Restart your PC

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

That has been happening a lot lately for me also. Sometimes I have to restart Steam twice to get it going.

I thought it was an addon problem, but now I see the problem just might be elsewhere.

Be interesting to find out if lots more people are having the same issue.

Happened to me a while back as well.

Might have been a coincidence but after I ran the verify files option in Steam the problem did not recur.

YES - that does work but it is a nuisance to have to restart the PC just to restart the sim.  Why did this just start happening to me?  I've never had the problem previously.

OTH - the sim with frame gen is running very nicely - thank you!

99/100 you do NOT need to restart your pc. You ONLY need to log off and on again. This will close all dead processes and refresh your desktop.

A complete reboot is only needed when Windows itself has become unstable, not an errant application.

My Win 11 takes 90 seconds to shutdown and 45 seconds to restart.  I have worked the slow shut down using every tip I can find on the web - still is slow

Or use task manager to terminate them or now that it is happening this often - use a batch file in DOS to terminate the offenders

I was experiencing this also.

For me at least, it turned out (or appeared to be) an older version of map enhancement causing the issue. After updating to the latest map enhancement, the issue no longer occurs. As with anything, your mileage will vary.

NZXT H7 Flow PC Case. 6X Corsair LL140 RGB Fans. Seasonic GX-1000 Focus Gold Power supply. Asus ROG Strix Z690F. Intel Core i9 14900K @5.7Ghz. NZXT Kraken X63 280mm AIO. 64Gb (2x32) Corsair Dominator DDR5 CAS40 @ XMPII. EVGA 3090ti FTW3 Ultra.  Main Fltsim Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2Tb NVME.

You may also have supporting apps to MSFS that are preventing the sim from shutting down properly. Make sure to also shut down every app that connects to MSFS after closing the sim, like Navigraph, BeyondATC/SayIntentions, FSRealistic, and whatnot.
