Interesting Responses at the XPlane.org Payware Issues

There is a big quality issue with many of the products for sale on some of the stores for all sims. However the problem is much worse on places like Simmarket which even sells very low quality content that is using copyrighted/stolen material and somehow nobody seems to see an issue with it.

I bought a product a few months ago that was clearly listed as Mac compatible, only to find that it wasn't after purchasing and trying to install. The "mac compatible" statement was that you have to run it using the Rosetta emulation layer (i.e. Running the entire sim this way), and there has been no update since and the developer went AWOL, essentially leaving me with a useless product. There have been numerous other purchases like this that simply aren't as advertised, or half finished etc.

I'm personally looking forward to a proper curated store built into the sim that doesn't censor out legitimate user reviews.

I saw nothing of the sort. Just a frustrated customer saying what he thinks in reasonable language.

Some developers even refuse to update their planes!

That is a very broad statement. Are we talking about bug fixes to, or upgrades from say 11 to 12. There are a lot of planes from 11 that wont be updated to 12 simply because they are a complete rebuild or require to much work, and not many are willing to pay for all that work, and I cant blame them for that, they have to eat too. But you can see from all the hostility on this chat, I cant blame developers from quitting or ignoring people.

If a developer can't handle criticism or offering support then they shouldn't be selling products or dealing with the public. However, I agree that it's no excuse to be rude and aggressive and won't get users anywhere.

"its complicated"

like many an xplane resource site before it, x-plane.org is a vital discovery resource for the xplane community.

The store is the reason unlike most if not all of the others, it's still going.

At the same time their administration far too often does more harm to the growth and harmony of the xplane community than good.

And thats the problem I see far to much of this these days, and I suspect its what pushed some developers into silence.

One thing the internet provides is an unfiltered mic for a great many bizarre, childish people who either are insanely rude and/or irrational, or are acting as much. Not every rational person builds up a thick enough skin to shovel through that mess with regularity or without having to go a bit nuts themselves. Couple that with rampant demoralizing piracy (XP's addon system is based on a simpler time and world) and yeah, I can see how many devs as well as the .org owner are all a bit on edge. Especially now that he's threatened with losing a significant portion of his business. Recession is painful for all involved.

But who knows...maybe he really is just another one of those internet-happy nutjobs too...

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

I've reported many bugs

that were never fixed. Don't compare x-plane to msfs...

Just curious...you claim to have reported "many" bugs that were "never fixed".

How many bugs have you reported?  LR almost always reply to bug reports asking for details and steps to reproduce the problem.  How many times have they responded to you?  And what kind of bugs were they?  If they were the type, such as "The Airbus doesn't fly right.", then you can expect no reply.

I know this all too well. When I made the original London landmarks pack for MFS for release day, it did really well and had positive reviews until one Youtuber noticed a bug where I had replaced an Asobo landmark building with a lower quality one. It was a genuine mistake being that the sim was also new and once reported it was fixed within a few hours. However, that wasn't the end of it, the Youtuber's followers spread it across various forums and gathered a mob that ripped everything apart, accusing me of being a cheat, deliberately trying to scam users, etc and it felt ilke a mob was coming with a pitchfork for the crime of releasing a product that cost $9 dollars with a bug in it. Within days people moved on to the next victim. The youtuber got his attention and went on to do the same to other developers etc, and the bug was subsequently fixed with further improvement updates.

Every bug that gets reported gets put into a repository and prioritized according to importance.

So if your reports were legitimate, as opposed to "the color is wrong on the Airbus panel", (not saying that's what you said, just mentioning that they get those kinds of reports), then they were all placed in the repo and will be addressed.

@GoranM: For example there are several Autopilot status datarefs but none works with the G1000. That's broken for years but there's hope as, I got this in email just this morning:

https://developer.x-plane.com/x-plane-bug-database/?issue=XPD-15888

I simply need to use that for cockpit lights, to see what AP functions are active.

Bugs are prioritized as stated many times, Xplane crashing is far more important that a data ref, and a lot of data refs have changed as im sure you are well aware.

Hi,

I've filed numerous reports about networking issues that have gone unanswered for Y E A R S! Matter of fact, We're still waiting for fixes to clouds, shadows, rain, lightning, dusk dawn lighting, vehicles, airport gates the list goes on and on. and YES I know they lost their network guy but that was some time ago. Implying that users don't now how to complete a bug report is a poor excuse for L/R failing to address bugs in a timely manner!

Beta tester for Traffic Global, it took three months for me to find the aircraft disappearing off the screen while entering networked computers, found it was the FOV and it was fixed next beta.

I'm not in a position to speak for LR, but IIRC, your issue has been addressed already, hasn't it?  A few months ago, there was some networking fix.

Again, the networking problem was not a priority among the other items that needed to be looked at.

There's a new shadow quality slider added.

rain,

They know about this, and it's going to get looked at.

I won't go on with your other issues.

Bottom line, what you find problematic, LR find it either acceptable or it's going to get looked at.

Dusk and dawn lighting is getting overhauled because they have Faruk working on that, based on his work in enhanced skyscapes.  But it's not a quick and easy fix.

This one I have to address, because you are completely wrong.

Example.  Here is a sample bug report from X-Plane 10, taken almost verbatim.

"I'm a real world C172 pilot.  The default C172 flies wrong on take off and landing.  Please fix."

That's it.  No details.  No numbers.  No flight model output.  One line.  I do hold you in high regard, Mike, but If you're going to justify that kind of bug report, I'll be the first in line to tell you that those kinds of reports will get a head shake, face palm, and almost always get deleted with no reply.
