Remove Photogrammetry "Trees"?

Featured Replies

Hi all, as Berne in Switzerland is heavily affected (or not manually reworked at all) by those annoying photogrammetry "trees", I wonder if there is an easy solution to remove them? I know that some addons are available to remove those ugly blobs elsewhere, but it might be possible to do on your own, no? Or is it only for experienced devs? Thanks for any hint.

Greetings, Chris

Apparently, Bijan has managed to remove PG trees in many cities. Based on a resent post here on Avsim, it seems that he will continue to develop his product after a long absence.

Here's a related thread:

I bought ORBX HD Trees, but was shocked to find photogrammetry trees appearing with them. I thought maybe HD Trees would somehow disable them, but apparently not. In the end, I disabled PG completely - and can't say I miss it. HD Trees look great without it.

I also have great respect for Bijan and hope he continues developing his product.

That is basically the reason I was asking here, because at least in the photogrammetry of Berne, Asobo used the 3D trees to cover up those ugly photogrammetry blobs but with a Tree addon, in my case REX Accuseason, that reduces the ridiculous tree size, those covered up blobs get more visible. Bummer...

Photogrammetry trees are recognized as objects, not actual trees, by MSFS. This means that no tree mod can replace them, except by manually hand editing the SDK, which I've done in hundreds of locations. Although the next MSFS 2024 version's trailer suggests this limitation will persist as I noticed PG trees at 1:24 minute in latest trailer. It's possible that changes may still be made before the final release.

Contrary to their claims, it appears not all trees will be 3D. I've noticed the current 'ghosted' trees in the trailer, indicating that only select 3D trees in specific spots have been manually placed. But there is absolutely no way all the trees in the world are placed manually. There must be an automated method but trailer tells a different story. If it is automated, why some green areas are blank with no trees?

Normally, terrain with green areas suggesting tree coverage is automatically filled with trees by AI, but the trailers show empty green terrain where trees should be, suggesting manual editing has been done to place 3D trees.

Please note that my observations are based on pre-release information and are subject to change. I'm simply sharing my thoughts and will continue to monitor developments.

Hi,

Photogrammetry trees are the ugliest things present in MSFS 2020.

I wonder if MSFS24 will solve this issue.

Regards.

No, still present in MSFS2024:

Thank you for your clarification, Bijan,

I can't understand it, sincerely...

If they can remove clouds, why cant they remove trees?

Although any kind of photogrammetry can be removed; removing just a features as a buildings or trees is far more tricky than just remove the whole of an area.

Possibly the only way of doing it is by hand; obviously not feasible for vast areas; exclusion of photogrammetry can cause 'slicing effects'  where photogrammetry features are left with corners or portions cut out.

indeed those blobby trees do not look good.

Not at my PC at the moment, but does.turning off PG remove the lovely ground textures in PG areas?

The latest UK WU has some really lovely ground textures in many areas.

Good question, should be easy to test. PG always on for me. Have not noticed that ground textures are any better in PG areas.

I noticed a bunch of mods on Flightsim.to with tree removal in major cities ( mainly in PG areas).

I just installed Orbx Trees and it does not seem to play well with PG. Coming into KSEA yesterday , my PG trees are blocky blobs ( when using Orbx Trees only)  . IN non PG areas , it works fine. When i only use REX Accuseason , trees in PG areas are fine.

Will Orbx trees show up even if this mod is used?

15 hour day for me today, but will check when I get in.  I thought each PG area had additional ground textures associated with it.  The area around Leeds (EGNM) in the UK is quite spectacular.
