September 12, 20241 yr Hiya, Just completed my first transatlantic flight on VATSIM. Was awesome. However, there is this recurring issue - the entire flight goes super smooth, until massive stutters appear on final approach where fluid performance is most needed 😵💫. Happens randomly. This time it was KORD with PMDG77W and Asobo scenery, previously in LFMN with add-on scenery in a FBW A32N. The other day landed with the same A32N in the same LFMN smoothly. Not sure if it happens on VATSIM only. My specs are 7800x3D, RTX4800 Super, 32GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 (EXPO). Running 1440p locked at 60FPS with DLSS and frame generation. Everything on ultra. Taking off from the same airport after parking at the gate/refuelling is smooth. Any ideas? massive thanks in advance.
September 12, 20241 yr It probably has nothing to do with Vatsim. I have this all the time when I fly in or out of the airports of a larger city with photogrammetry on. Frame rates are fine while I am taxiing, but on takeoff roll I get single-digit fps until I have reached a bit of altitude. You can try turning photogrammetry off in the settings. This completely resolves the issue for me, but it may have side effects. For instance, default EDDK completely disappears under trees when I do that. Peter
September 12, 20241 yr AutoFPS is the solution for me. Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)

September 12, 20241 yr Author Wow that was insane. In my case it was not as bad and fluency was restored once I slowed down on the ground 🙄 have you found any solution?

Peter Maybe it has something to do with caching photogrammetry data? I imagine the world looks bland after you turn it off? This might be some clue, as I observed some minor stutters also while flying GA over Martinique (carribean world update). And it was not in the most complex location on the island (in fact one of the emptiest one)

Photogrammetry makes cities look like real life when you are 1km above it, but when you get close, the buildings can be fairly ugly. Scenery outside cities is not affected.
September 12, 20241 yr I think it's related to the Rolling Cache. If you have it on, clear it or switch it off. It happens when you fly to a new area of photogrammetry and the rolling cache is full, so it has to purge old data to write the new data in. This severely impacts your FPS while it does so. For most people with fast internet connection the rolling cache serves no benefit, so I just leave it off. September 12, 20241 yr Author I tried AutoFPS, it didn't improve the situation at all, maybe even made it worse. Stutters appeared once I entered the runway. It was so bad I almost crashed on takeoff. Some 2000ft in the air it stopped. What the actual..
September 13, 20241 yr Author UPDATE: it seems Vatsim was the culprit indeed. vPilot in its sheer genius was using every possible aircraft model I had installed, including PMDG and such. Limited mappings to only FSTL aircraft (man, that was a lot of clicking.. some presets like "only use models of low complexity" would be welcome). and it seemed to help - departed KATL and landed at KDCA with both FSTL and Vatsim traffic and ultra details and was okay. As for AutoFPS, it massively degreaded visual quality (ie. tuned down clouds to High with no option to change it) with no performance benefits whatsoever. I guess YMMV depending on system used. Also despite claiming that it only temporarily (for the time it is run) changes MSFS graphics settings if you follow the instructions, it turned out not to be the case. All that being said, no complaining and all the honor to the devs of both vPilot and AutoFPS, as these kind of apps are incredibly difficult to develop and are completely free. Will keep you posted how the situation evolves.
