Both are 4K.

I tried the App and it politely informed me that P3D does not support optimisation. The settings options were identical to NCP. So, no benefit, as far as I am concerned.

@Ianrivaldosmith has published a guide to getting the best possible performance from the LS application. I was getting frustrated with stutters but those have been eliminated after using his tips.

  • Be aware that the Steam tool might not deliver the expected performance enhancement with P3D V6, because V6 has a similar build-in functionality. From P3D V6 change log: Added Resolution Sca

Yes but the latest Beta APP allows you to apply DLSS override and smooth motion to unsupported titles in the Global setting.

If discussion is going to switch to an Nvidia app perhaps a separate topic would be appropriate.

If you think it’s a viable alternative to LS then post a new topic.

I don't know why people are having so much trouble understanding how to use Lossless Scaling

It's always seemed pretty logical to myself.

You just set the sim to a frame rate where hardware resources are not maxing out i.e. CPU & GPU have plenty of headroom and are not maxing out all the time.

Then use LS frame generation to bring the frame rate up to a vsync level, be that 30Hz or 60Hz or higher depending on what your monitor supports and what fps you'd like to achieve.

As long as there is headroom on the CPU/GPU (especially the GPU), a smooth vsync'd sim should be the result.

And it certainly has been for myself, where I can adjust the frame rate of the sim itself via RivaTuner, where RivaTuner running outside of the sim allows "on the fly" fps adjustments and setting LS to 60 fps keeps the sim smooth.

If fly into a graphics heavy area that begins maxing out my GPU, I just click into RviaTuner and drop a couple of fps off the sim frame rate to reduce the GPU use, thus keeping LS running 60 Hz vsync.

LS has really made a huge difference to myself as I can now fly practically anywhere in the world @ a vsync'd 60 Hz (60 fps), indeed I can take the sim to 120 fps if I desire.

Cheers

All I can say is lucky you.

For me when my Sim is loading AI planes or heavy scenery, even at my lowest setting, it makes no difference. The sim will always tank to 2 or 3 fps for a few (or quite a few), seconds then recover.

The best use for Lossless is at an airport, even "heavy" ones where it has an immediate effect on vehicles.

I have it set to 20/60, which gives the best results. I now turn it off when in the air.

I've been puzzled at your lack of performance with P3D and LS until I noticed your PC description - your cpu is a 10 year old spec, extremely dated in desktop PC terms.  I bet if you used P3D v3.4 or 4.5 your performance would skyrocket on that system with LS, v5 and v6 are much more demanding of pc horsepower, so I am not surprised that you struggle to get good frames.
