I've now tested and used the app in my 3 sims and it works the smoothest in p3d v5. I have to remember to disable it before I use the menus or else they are unusable, I also had issue with a ghost mouse cursor but this seemed to go away after a while.

In scenarios where I could maintain 50+ fps natively obviously it looks better than 30 fps x2.

It will be very handy for anything where my fps would normally drop to around 30 as that's a performance I can no longer enjoy in a sim.

For the pittance it sells for this old and fussy so and so definitely recommends this tool.

@Ianrivaldosmith has published a guide to getting the best possible performance from the LS application. I was getting frustrated with stutters but those have been eliminated after using his tips.

  • Be aware that the Steam tool might not deliver the expected performance enhancement with P3D V6, because V6 has a similar build-in functionality. From P3D V6 change log: Added Resolution Sca

I assume external tools like FFTF dynamic (P3D) and AutoFPS (MSFS) need to get a target fps setting accordingly. In this example they should be set to 20 fps and not the target fps of Lossless scaling which is 60?

Yeeess.....he replies confidently (ish). The tools you mention take the output from the sim (intercept it) and display it in a window that LS then also intercepts and displays in the full screen borderless window that you actually see on your monitor.

So if you are intending 3x for 20 or 2x for 30 you need to tell the tools you are fine with that fps. Meaning they can inject more detail as a lower initial target is set.

Ultimately it would be nice if the sims themselves could integrate all this internally. Or ONE addon could do both tasks seamlessly.

Smooth is good though I don't care how we get there!

Thanks!

Lossless scaling is a great addon, it smoothed out my performance significantly especially while panning around.

A couple of more questions -

  1. RTSS vs. NCP for external fps locking?
  2. Variable refresh rate checkbox within the sim? I have a freesync monitor but an Nvidia GPU (currently per Ray's suggestion I've kep it off)

My remaining issue is stutters especially on the ground while the aircraft is turning.

Appreciate the help!

Ray could probably give better detail here as my setup is simple. I use nvidia control panel to set max frame rate at 30 in p3d (I use 2x ls) , 60 globally and in sim I set unlimited.

I'm using a rather cheap 4k TV at the moment, I've experimented with nvidia setting vsync /adaptive /half adaptive globally but as we're setting up redundant situations here with the frame rate lock also set for the sim i tend to leave it just full vsync global (60) and off for the sim.

For sure when setting up the sim and the os the less settings you use the better at first, making only one change at a time before testing is the safest way to tweak.

Take the first paragraph more seriously than the 2nd as I am still experimenting with vsync!

Regards the stutter.. That's your holy grail quest right there..

Is it the on ground part that's relevant or the scenery around you that's making the stutter?

Try landing in a desert with nothing but flat sand around and taxi there. Does it stutter? If not it's the scenery before lol. If it DOES its something less obvious.

DISCLAIMER 😎

My skills are in general pc setup for media creation apps and legacy sims. I'm still a relative noob with p3d so with anything other than generic gfx settings you NEED a p3d pro like Ray to get an informed answer.

This Lossless program has an aversion to other things going on while flying. This week, I was reading a newspaper on a long flight (as one does!) and the PC locked up and nothing would unlock it. In the end I had to do a hard reset and in the process my system SSD got trashed.

Thats extreme but it definitely likes to mess with whatever current window has focus. Multitasking is a nono for sure.

Hope you can get the important data off that drive..

Maybe your SSD went faulty and crashed your PC. Maybe nothing whatsoever to do with Lossless Scaling as there would have been a hell of a lot more processes running at the time of crashing.

Just feel sorry for poor old LS getting the blame............😄

With all that I've been reading, I have to confess I'm a bit uneasy trying it 😕

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

For what its worth. The lock ups I have are fixed when i hit windows button on keyboard and then click on p3d icon on taskbar the flight continues. Then pause button if necessary but never crashes my system. It is well worth it period even with the artifacts that sometimes pop up at a distance.

No, absolutely not. I have proved to myself many times that it does not react well to multi tasking. It was my own fault. I thought that reading would not hurt.

I am taking the opportunity to re- install everything from scratch. Might even put Lossless back😆

It is worth trying. But just be very aware of its peculiarities.

I suppose it depends on what other processes are running. ChasePlane switches to an external view after a few minutes of zero mouse or keyboard movement. It’s never caused an issue with LP engaged.

But if I want to access the P3D menus I always toggle it off.

Sorry to hear of your crash Ian. Did you not have a backup available? AOMEI has a free version of BackUpper for home use. I run the DiskCopy option to make an exact copy of my SSD.
