I suppose it depends on what other processes are running. ChasePlane switches to an external view after a few minutes of zero mouse or keyboard movement. It’s never caused an issue with LP engaged.

But if I want to access the P3D menus I always toggle it off.

Sorry to hear of your crash Ian. Did you not have a backup available? AOMEI has a free version of BackUpper for home use. I run the DiskCopy option to make an exact copy of my SSD.

Yes. I have backups. Unfortunately, I had just cleaned up my backup drive to make space and the copy that I had left as reserve was faulty and would not restore.

Just proves that I had become complacent. In future I will do a verification check at least once a week.😒

So I have been giving this a go.  I have a 6700K @ 4.5GHz, 16GB RAM and 1080 (8GB card).

I can crank the simulator and limit it to 20FPS happily and use X3 and Vsync @ 60.  However, the process obviously take some processing power of its own, so I found it better to limit SIM FPS to 15 and then use X2 and VSync1/2 at 60.

The only trouble is - increasing settings much more than I can maintain at the usual 30FPS gets me running out of VRAM haha. Has anyone else with these sort of specs found themselves in this boat?

On a different note - have any of you tried this with MSFS?  I tried with that, and I limit FPS and do everyhting the same (using RTSS), but the minute I start losless scaling, MSFS frames crash down to about 5-8 FPS.  Bascially I cannot use it with that, and I'm not sure why.  For me, MSFS is more taxing than P3D v5 so that would be the best use case for me.

Do any of you wise fellows have some views to pass on this?

I have the same set up as you do.

I use RTSS at one half to give 30, set my fps in NV Control to 15, then set Lossless to x4.  Gives me normally smooth 15/60 results.

My previous caveat about VRAM still applies, lossless does nothing for missing VRAM. It just helps smooth out the results a bit.

I've used it in P3D and now using it fine in MSFS.

I've set 20 fps in RTSS, and x3 in the app

It applies to all flight sims. His post can be found here.

I decided to pick up lossless today and I’m getting worse stuttering with it than I am without it in v5.4.

I picked it up hoping it would help smooth out stuttering with the fslabs buses which maybe isn’t what lossless scaling does.

I have a 9700k / rtx 3060 and a 60hz 2k monitor,  so not exactly the best machine, but can consistently get 30 fps with my settings in P3d, however I get stutters while in the air with the fslabs hence why I picked up LS, and hoping it would allow me to increase some other settings like LOD radius scenery draw distance.

I capped frames at 20 in RTSS and followed other suggestions in this thread, but it is a stuttering mess no matter what I try.  Not the end of the world because it only cost $7, but any suggestions on what settings should work with my rig? I find Vsync off creates less tearing and artifacts, but the stuttering is so bad the sim is unusable with FG enabled.

Ian’s instructions should give you good performance. What multiplier are you using? Make sure VSync is off in P3D as well as Nvidia CP.

Try 29 in RTSS and x2. Post your screenshot of settings.

You're right it's not gonna reduce stutters. You need get the sim smooth at a consistent frame rate FIRST before multiplying frame rates and /or upscaling resolution. I have a pretty high and machine (i12900 /rtx 4090/128gb 6400) but am happy just to get steady 30fps before LS does its thing with the Lab buses especially with addon scenery.

Do you use a weather injector such as Active Sky? For me that's the major source of in flight performance drops I've just learned to accept it although the MCDU reset issue is more annoying to me so I try to lock that 30fps in before applying ls if I want an enjoyable experience.

Tried to post an image but I can never get the flickr links to work on Avsim, so I won't be posting an image.  I will do some more testing with Lossless in the coming days/weeks and see what I can come up with.

@sloppysmusic yes I am using Active Sky.  The biggest resource hog is AI traffic currently for me.

Setting the APP to use DLSS in the default global the result is double FPS. Even though P3D is locked at 30.

All my games will run with this by using the global default. But you can still use custom setting for each game if you want.

I am still using the Nvidia GeForce Experience and control panel. Is it worth switching to the new Nvidia App?

This explains how it works but you must have the latest version of the APP.

PS you must for this and new drivers do a reboot after install, or you will not get the correct effect and think it`s not working.

I use DDR to unnstall the Nvidia driver and then NVCleanStall to install only the driver. It doesn't include GeForce Experience which isn't needed.

In NCP under Manage 3D Settings / Global Settings set VSync to "Use the 3D application setting".

When you turn off VSync in P3D it applies to NCP too.

In RTSS set a profile for P3D and set Frameratelimit to what's appropriate for your system. I use 29 with a x2 multiplier in LG. That gives me 58 with no VSync.
