It's crazy what we're gonna get out-of-the-box come MSFS 2024. Back in the day we'd be hundreds of dollars out of pocket to reach parity

There was a time when we thought this hobby was doomed when Steve Balmer cut the program.  I never expected we would ever see a flightsim platform this polished and with so many resources being thrown at it.  We are into the next version of this sim already, but the current version still wows me every time I use it.  (Except when it infuriates me post updates)

Yup. Among all the civilian flight simulators on the market now, MSFS definitely gives you the best value for money, if you are buying the most basic version. And not only does MSFS give you the most

Yep, I agree with you. MSFS 2020 is quite polished already and it deserves to be in the group of AAA games made, with the corresponding budget of an AAA game.  It's amazing how advanced MSFS 2020 is, given the alternatives we had before it.  I'm just glad that with MSFS, flight simulation was brought to the capabilities of technology in 2020. And now MSFS 2024 will take flight simulation to the technological capabilities of the mid 2020s 👍.

Yeah I wish we get proper weather radar soon. It seems like an odd omission - I can live without it, but it feels like something that should be there. I’m sure they’ll come up with some solution soon.

Just to be clear, we have a WX Radar since day one, it works, it's 3D etc. It doesn't tilt and it doesn't show data really far from the plane though. It's true they should improve it (Jörg said in one of the interviews the radar now tilts and they are working on the far distant weather issue), but it's not true we are missing a weather radar. Even PMDG implemented it in the 777 (besides all their complains about it).

PS: Not really directed to you, but it's a bit tiresome to see people spread all around MSFS doesn't have a WX Radar, which isn't true.

Jörg did not say that the radar now tilts, he said he thinks it's doable now and the interviewer should ask Seb about it (which he forgot to do...). In the recent '24 Q&A dev stream they basically refused to talk about the radar, so we still don't know if tilting is possible now or not.

I remember Martial said "no" in the Twitch Q&A when he was asked about the weather radar, and he seemed to imply that tilt is not supported in MSFS 2024 yet, but I can't remember what timestamp in the Twitch Q&A he said this. However, I don't recall if Martial was explicitly asked about tilt though, maybe somebody else has the timestamp when Martial said this.

As far as I understood it, by doable he meant it is functional now. He also added "it's much better now". But asked him to ask Seb for a full answer to the question, which the interviewer never did. But yeah, we need to wait and see. My point wasn't really the improvements in 2024, but the fact we have a functional WX radar since day one. I've seen people saying all around that MSFS doesn't have one, which isn't true.

We can all agree there's room for improvements though.

I thought Working Title were working on a Weather Radar? It was on the official forum in a post I remember watching it.

Knew I wasn't going mad, appears Matt took the video down though;

I just rewatched, the question was:
"Will there be a working weather radar?", he then answered: "It's still in the backlog😁"; Jörg:😁

I mean, the WX works, not greatly though, but it works. So I don't know what his answer really means. Maybe they just don't want to talk about it right now (Meteoblue is involved here). When they don't have plans to do something, they just say it.

Yeah, I've watched the video, it had nice insights, I don't know why took it out. It would, maybe, put to rest the claims the WX Radar doesn't work.

It could have been my imagination, but I got the impression that he was thinking to himself: “are they ever going to stop asking questions about weather radar?”

Timestamped link:

Martial: “Still on the backlog.”

Ya for whatever reasons he took down a few of his videos and not just that one, but yes that particular was one to dispel the misinformation out there that MSFS doesn't have weather radar, or that it's not 3D, etc. As we currently stand in MSFS 2020, is the major missing functionality the ability to tilt the 3D cone?

Yes it does exist, and I’m aware it’s been there since day one.

But many 3rd party planes don’t use it because of various limitations. I would like to see it just be standard and not a topic of conversation

9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

So, the users need to pressure 3rd party devs to use it, it's good enough (again, improvements are needed and welcome). When/If it gets improved, they've already implemented it in their aircrafts. Look PMDG, they've complained for a long time about the WX Radar, but finally implemented it in the 777, and it works as expected.

Also found one of the several Matt's post about the subject. Not as good as the video, but still a short and nice read:
https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/official-discussion-september-29-2022-development-update/546318/24

It's a bit outdated because it's from two years ago, but some of his insights in that topic are kinda important to understand what works and its limitations.
