Asobo would be so much more in the clear if they just didnt sell 3rd party software and take a commission off it.  But once you do that your in the muck now and updates matter, compatibility matters.  Sorry its just a fact.

Asobo is absolutely in the clear. A bunch of petty gamers that feel the need to assign "blame" for every minor thing that happens (and call for people to be "fired" LOL😂😂😂😂 ) are entirely irrelevant to their success.

You might know software testing, but dont understand business decisions surrounding it.  If I buy MSFS from Microsoft and then buy an addon from Microsoft Marketplace and it craps out my purchase after an update, its defiantly a Microsoft problem, your the only vender I've worked with!!!!  As a Software Engineer you might not agree, but when you wade into the $$$$ of aftermarket purchases these are things you need to deal with and if you are only testing in a sandbox environment when your whole business is tied into making $ of third party purchases through your store, then your leadership needs to be fired.

If I have a PM come and tell me my new update needs to work with x addon I’ll tell him to touch grass. My job is to ensure my work works with my product. Anyone that decides to create modifications for my product it is within their maintenance budget to ensure that their modifications work with my product, that is not my responsibility nor would any company create a budget to dedicate time to doing so.

also I’m 100% sure asobo devs use navigraph but they cannot use it during development, it opens up a can of worms and possible regressions when running test suites. This goes for addons on the marketplace and externally.

This is not the end of the world, almost no addons are day-one ready. An update will be released and all is well. However you’re expectations are being placed on the wrong entity here.

MS doesn't have Navigraph installed on their test machines because it's good practice to keep what you are testing code against clean. So, no add ons.

That said, because of the house of cards that is how add ons connect to the sim, it's also why you do the betas so developers can test against that prior to a release.

MS owns their decision to not release beta. Navigraph now owns working with MS to resolve the issue.

don't have to apologize to me when it appears you are agreeing with my point...

Sorry wasn't meant at your comment, more so Abriael's but didn't want to quote both.

jeez.  I though your post said you have a site called simulation daily or something.  I'm having trouble digesting it.

All we know is our simulator now won't work after asobo pushed out an unannounced update.

The update was announced in August, with the release date being updated to today during last Wednesday's Q&A stream.

And the CTD fix is easy and doesn't break your flying.

I'm having trouble digesting people calling for leadership to be "fired" because Navigraph causes a crash.

At least, I'm having trouble digesting it without laughing.

Oh yeah the "X needs to be fired" delirium. Your arguments have completely devolved into the most toxic areas of the "gamer" discourse.

It's not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing. It's not how it works. You likely shouldn't mention "business decisions" when you don't know a single thing about business.

This comment tells me all I need to know about you, and the absolute decaying societal structure around software engineering and gaming.  I own a business, but you do you.  Tell your customers that you did everything perfectly and your program works in a "stable environment" and that you cant be responsible for any 3rd party conflicts even though I vouched for and sold many 3rd party add-ons to you.  Last response for you, I know your type.

yes this is fair. was it also announced their would be a nav data type change that would cause a program like navigraph to cause CTD's?

My point is 10 million users, maybe  0,1 % of them use navigraph, how the hell does that make navigraph the most popular? Its probably not even among the 1000 most popular addon among all those users. Unless you consider 0,1 % of users to be the only communety…. Maybe we like to think “we” are the communety, but after MSFS 2020 came about, the communety is way bigger than the few elitists here at avsim…

somone on here found the issue in 10 mins. again its not rocket science this to spend an hour or 2 testing with some addons.  this issues has plauged us in the community for over 10 years now,  the lack of basic testing on all addons, wether it be afcads, textures of fan blades, ils freq's, runway numbers etc .  its not difficult.

Game/Sim Developers have NEVER been responsible for THIRD PARTY addons working 100% after an update by default.

Either way Asobo knows about the issue and it has been 'escalated', whatever that means.

guys.  for now.  Removing this allowed me to boot post update.  Hope this helps.

Yeah that's all you need to do.

The base sim already has the latest AIRAC cycle data anyways. Asobo updates it with every cycle.

After calling for people to be fired, now we're looking at the "decay of society" because an addon of a game causes a crash.

Totally reasonable and proportionate to the issue...

On boy. 😂

I agree, I don't get why this is so hard for people to understand.  If you sell a game/sim, and just update it your in the clear.  It you decide to capitalize on 3rd party revenue by creating an in-game store that sells 3rd party content IN GAME then you have more requirements to make sure things dont get totally broken.  I'm sure a few months of store revenue could pay for extra testing on this.  We aren't talking about some building messed up or something.  Its a straight CTD when you have a VERY popular add on installed. They can do better.
