FSLTL drops support for FSHud

Featured Replies

NOTAM: If you are on FSLTL v1.6.6 and a regular user of FSHud, you may not want to update to latest FSLTL v1.6.7 as it no longer supports FSHud compatibility.

Reason (from what I understood) - since traffic data is sourced from FR24, their new terms of service prohibits use of traffic data for commercial use by any 3rd party software..

few interesting observations:

1. FSLTL v1.6.7 also has MSFS2024 compatibility.. so by not updating you are stuck with MSFS 2020 only, if you want to continue using FSHud.

2. How is it okay for FSLTL to inject FR24 data into MSFS which itself is a commercial product? How does this not violate FR24 ToS?

I would appreciate if any FSLTL developer can clarify point #2... tried to ask in their discord.. had sign-in issues into few discord servers.. so posting the question here..

I got the answer for point #2.. read my post below..

According to their T&C only the free subscription disallows commercial use. The premium gold, silver and bronze allow it via api. I didn't check the cost of this I presume the dev needs pay for this to continue to use?

Ok I just got the answer from FSLTL devs themselves on discord.. they had a prior agreement with FR24 to inject their data into MSFS.. so the sim has been grand-fathered into the agreement.. but FSHud or any other new 3rd party app is not covered by that agreement.. makes sense now..

How does BATC traffic control work around this? I thought they started controlling traffic recently just like FSHud.. so does this move affect BATC too?

BATC traffic

BATC pays for offline-data. It's not injecting live traffic.

The FSHud dev doesn’t pay for data and used the FSLTL injector. That’s a liability for the FSLTL project, as they have an agreement with FR24 (FSHud is payware, whereas FSLTL is free).
In order to use live traffic data you have to pay, otherwise the data provider can easily shut down your project.

If the restriction is just live data, wouldn't it be possible to use flightplans the way AIG does?
Personally I don't need the AI traffic to be "live", as long as it is just believable traffic for the time of day.

Install AIG and set in FSHUD AIG traffic files and done. FSHUD will inject the traffic.

ya I dont require the traffic to be live.. in fact I prefer offline historical data because I fly at odd hours when its night time in other parts of the world and hence little or no live traffic..

But with AIG, the enroute traffic was very less.. something that FShud will address in future updates..

the other issue with AIG was the nav lights not working - this has been addressed by a script/app that was shared in this forum..  so the lack of much enroute traffic is the only AIG issue so far...

AIG released a model update yesterday that permanently fixes the lights issue - no need to run the script any longer.

Oops indeed. But that's what you get nowadays with more and more addons depending on other providers and parties... Luckily for FSHud they still got AIG (and default bgl's) to work with but it's a bit of a bummer (for them: I don't use FSHud anymore anyway). But well, similar things can happen to BATC: they have some sort of agreement with their premium voice provider but you never know if a 3rd party like that may cancel things or make it all way more expensive. The same could be the case with their basic voice provider. All those things in the cloud and the various dependencies aren't necessarily a good thing.

BATC has a contract with the voice provider and FR24, so quite the opposite of what FSHud (or FSLTL) has done. Since it's a contract, the provider can't just pull stuff. Once the contract with the voice provider (Elevenlabs IIRC) runs out next year, they'll renegotiate and (hopefully) get even better terms.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I know the situation for BATC isn't exactly like FSHud's situation but as you said: 'hopefully'... Of course I do expect AI related stuff to become cheaper instead of more expensive but you never know and it is and remains a dependency: you can never be sure about things like that. Elevenlabs may decide to not renew the contract for whatever reason, you never know. The fact that the contract runs out next year already can be a but worrying. In the past most add ons were completely self supporting and didn't rely on other companies or providers. Anyway, my main point was that these dependencies can have its side effects (like with FSHud right now).

Well, as a bummer, this update does NOT work on my end, still (almost) the same light issues...
