Airbus or Boeing in 2024?

I think I'm "current" on:

That's an interesting classification - and a long list! I can keep up with only a handful of airplanes... I would say I am currently S tier on the 172, B tier on the A320, C tier on the Piston Duke, PC-6 and BN-2 - and that's about it.

Quick glance at post history confirms it. Poor attempt at trolling indeed.

Apparently I've been trolling here a VERY LONG time if you cared to really confirm your suspicions by looking at my profile.

I mostly fly the A320 family, but I do occasionally fly the 787 family, the 777-300, and the A300/A310

Totally agree. This seems a reasonably neutral topic so I’ll add to the discussion. I fly P3D and have always limited the number of aircraft I fly. Just six as things stand from slowest to fastest …

  • Vertx DA-62
  • Carenado PC-12
  • PMDG 737-800
  • PMDG 777
  • Xtreme Prototypes Lear 25
  • FS Labs Concorde.

That covers speeds from 160kts to Mach 2. I consider myself reasonably competent in flying and landing all of them and the faster ones like Concorde are especially demanding especially as its flight profile is unique.

I never fly one aircraft for long as the switch to another keeps the brain working. Familiarity breeds staleness as you do things automatically without thinking.

It’s a great hobby for keeping the brain working. As we all get older you’ll appreciate there are few hobbies as rewarding.

Regarding the question, Boeing. I don’t possess a joystick and would struggle to control the aircraft with one. My Fulcrum yoke is superb as is the new Fulcrum TQ. Ideal for Boeing.

Likewise, I usually fly only 3 - 4 aircraft in any stretch of time as I want really learn them, currently it’s been:

1. DV20 - trainer for low and slow

2. SR22 - tourer to get places faster

3. SF50 - a little jet action

4. A320 - airliner fix with short hops

All I fly now is PMDG 737, 777, and Fenix A 320.

Volar un Airbus puede ser un auténtico desafío si desactivas un montón de sistemas y estableces errores aleatorios.

For someone to say that a 737 is more of a challenge than an a320.... I find that comment very unbelievable. Both aircraft are highly automated nothing to do with much older aircraft.

Six is a nice number. I wish I could say the same thing. I bought way too many aircraft in P3D. The 737 and the Lear 25 are must-have purchases for me in MSFS 2024.

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

Well since the Ifly Max was released I’m having a break from Fenix and PMDG … taking off in VR in the max is unbelievable, I absolutely love it… I don’t get the same immersion feeling in the other two

Any more for me would not be flown that much although the 737 MAX from iFly would be good. But until Pollypot has his software working for my MCP I’ll hang on.

I’d rather be competent with a few rather than a Jack of all trades and master of none.

But, but... a specialist is a person who know more and more about less and less. 🙂

Add some flight management scoring routines and it gets even more demanding and that is also why I'm only using 4 planes and recently added the amazing default Longitude for short local hops.   I use the wonderful TM Boeing Pendulum Yoke and have no issues controlling FBW A320neo with it.

I feel more like passenger in the A 320 than a pilot.

I've been contemplating this myself. I am not great at flying any airliner to be honest. I started with the stock A320, then tried the FBW A320 and had lots of issues (this was pilot error at the time). Finally got to PMDG 737-800 and managed to 'get' how it works. I ended up taking an extended break and recently came back and am starting with the ini A320 v2.

I believe a LOT of my issues have been learning so much at one time. Operating the aircraft, programming the MCDU, making head or tails out of Navigraph charts. It's a lot for an older guy to take in. Alas, I am having fun and have been learning something new every day. I ended up making a list of the Aircraft I want to fly for my VA.

Airbus - A310-300, A320neo, A321LR, A330 (-200, -300, 300P2F), and the Beluga
Boeing - 737-800, 747-8i Dreamlifter, 787 Dreamliner, and the 737 Max 8

Also have quest a few more:
Bonanza G36
Beechcraft King Air 350
Beechcraft C90GTX King Air
Cessna Grand Caravan 208B
Cessna 408 SkyCourier
Cessna CJ4
Cessna Longitude
Pilatus PC-12 NGX
Pilatus PC-24
CIrrus Vision Jet - SF50
Dornier Seastar
Saab 340
and the ATR

Okay, most of the aircraft lol. It will probably take me until MSFS 2028 to learn most of them!
