Sim Won't Launch After 24H2 Update

Featured Replies

I just successfully updated to Win 11 24H2 via Windows Update.  Now whenever I launch the sim I get the following error message:

"The game has crashed.  Error Code: (0xc0000005)"

Event Viewer says the faulting module is nvwgf2umx.dll.  I have tried all of the following:

- Ran the "verify and repair" tool in the Xbox app

- Updated to the latest Nvidia driver (566.03)

- Emptied my Community Folder

- Turned off Fast Boot in W11 Power Options

- Launched the sim via the links in the Xbox app and the MS Store

- Verified that I was running the current DLSS version (3.7.20)

I am running out of ideas.  Before I try rolling back to 23H2, does anyone else have any suggestions for fixing this?  Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Have you tried running DDU in Safe Mode, then installing the drivers fresh? the .dll starting with nv would, in my mind, suggest an Nvidia related issue.

Yea, installed with DDU in Safe Mode.  I agree, I think it is somehow related to an Nvidia issue.  I searched the Crash To Desktop (CTD) Forum for anything related to nvwgf2umx.dll, but I didn't see anything helpful.

Searching "nvwgf2umx.dll crash" gives lots of results to wade thru. On the WWW, not Avsim.

Also the latest NVidia driver maybe.

I gave up before trying rolling back to an earlier driver and am waiting for MSFS2024 now -

Install an older version of the Nvidia drivers. I had issues with the recent version (stuttering, major slowdowns) and installing 561.09 fixed that.

I was running Nvidia 565.90 right after the 24H2 update, and MSFS wouldn't start.  Then I updated to Nvidia 566.03, and MSFS still wouldn't start.  So whatever it is I don't think its solely due to 566.03.

You are one " security update" away from not being able to fly.

We use our PC"s for flying and gaming , not " office computers"

I flew for at least a week after installing 24H2 so I don't think it is that either.

Only 11 days to go though .............

OK, I finally managed to get the sim to launch past the error message.  Thinking the 2H24 update might be the problem I uninstalled it.  But that didn't fix it.  So I reinstalled 2H24 and then rolled back to Nvidia 565.90.  After that I launched the sim and it started without crashing.  Since I was previously running 565.90 after updating to 2H24, I don't understand how going back to 565.90 again fixed it.  But I'm glad it did.  Thanks to all for your responses on potential solutions.  Appreciate it.
