MSFS 2024 Is Growing On Me

Featured Replies

Yeah, there are lots of issues and a lot of stuff works haphazardly - for example, the Pilatus PC-24, a plane I looked forward to, seems to be mostly broken, but I played around with the settings yesterday, did a couple of very short test flights. Performance was a solid 35-50 fps on my midrange system, with settings all on high on a 1440p ultra widescreen display.

- and I have to say: This thing has massive potential.

And the Longitude now has a (kind of low rez) cabin now! Hopefully modders can develop a high rez pack for the cabin.

32 gigs of Ram

Yesterday  was the first day i could actually use it properly, and i was impressed just how much better it is graphically, and not one stutter flying into KMIA or EGLL, with both crammed full of other players queued for departure or landing.

AMD Ryzen 7800x3d   64gb DDR5, Sapphire 7900 GPU MSSI Tomahawk AM5 M/Board. 1x 4tb Crucial M.2  SSD, 3x 2tb Crucial M.2 SSD's

Yes the new one seems to have a lot of potential and a tempting flight model - I am sure some day when the developement is completely finished it will be the best flightsim ever.  So devs, step on the gas!

Intel i9-14900K, 64 GB RAM, MB ASUS ROG STRIX 790-E, NVIDIA GTX 4080 Super 16GB, 2 x 2 TB M.2, BE QUIET Pure Power 12 M 1000W, BE QUIET Silent Loop 3 360 AIO, BE QUIET Dark Base Pro 901, 4K-Monitor, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, Thrustmaster TCA Yoke, Streamdeck XL, Thrustmaster T.16000M Joystick, Saitek Rudder Pedals, WINCTRL PAP3, WINCTRL 3M PDC, JetMax 737 home cockpi

Yeah, sorry to all those still having problems, but there are a lot of players having a good time with it.

In my case I only got kicked off the queue a couple of times and it has been fine since then. My load times are still about 10 minutes, but that doesn't bother me.

VR on the Pimax Light is as good as it was in 2020 which is where I do most flights.

Love the detail on the default planes

I'm getting there with it, not without it's frustrations of course but I'm creeping up on "getting there". Just fixing up a couple of minor niggles on my side then I should be good for a first proper flight today, getting to grips with the Controller Bindings has been the biggest faff but again I'm almost there...

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

After a bumpy start (to put it mildly), it's working pretty well now. I still struggle a bit with the controls, but that's my problem. And I regularly have CTDs, especially when returning to the main menu from missions, but thanks to the much faster loading times I can live with that for now. As for the graphics, I'm still not sure if I've seen the sim in its full glory. I've set everything to maximum and it looks good, but when I compared it to a screenshot from the trailer, it was nowhere near that. This could be due to server issues, and/or because they „updated“ the imagery for Switzerland where I checked. Photogrammetry in LA looked  unusually „melted“, so I guess it’s definitely something with the servers. Another annoying thing is that the mouse is sometimes unresponsive in VR and the toolbar menu has a life of its own. Oh, and in my helicopter license mission ATC had me taxi to the runway😂. Apart from that, it looks quite promising so far.

That was exactly what happened for MSFS2020 back then. People should have expected the same for MSFS2024

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

After a very rough start (it took almost 36 hours before the new sim let me do my first flight) it also grows on me.
I still have to take time to configure the controls properly, sofar I just did some basics. Especially the views (including 4way rocker switch) will take some time. To figure out what I want where.

I used AAO for my controller assignments with MSFS2020 and I figured to use the same configuration for MSFS2024 but from what I've seen there has been some changes which might mean I have to repair some of these. Since MSFS2024 remembers specific configurations for aircraft now I am still not sure whether to use the in-game controller settings or AAO.

There are lots of bugs with the default aircraft. The Cessna 172 G1000 seems OK, but the same aircraft with steam gauges has issues. The Cessna 152 has no sounds at all.
Like with the launch of MSFS2020 I think they should have waited and fix these issues first since issues like these should have been caught by their own betatesters.

I am confident most will be fixed but a little disappointed that some of the issues that had been solved in MSFS2020 have resurfaced in MSFS2024.

Flightsim rig:
CPU: AMD 5900x  | Mobo: MSI X570 MEG Unify | RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo | GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3090 | Storage: M.2 (2 & 4 TB) | PSU: Corsair RM850x | Case: Fractal Define 7 XL
Display: Acer Predator x34 3440x1440 | Speakers: Logitech Z906
Controllers: Fulcrum One Yoke | MFG Crosswind v2 pedals | Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant |Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant | Stream Deck XL & Plus | TrackIR 5 Tobii eye tracking

I would have hoped for a better launch, and some of the glaring things, like issues with the analog 172, the unflyable PC24, and others, really shouldn't have happened. But the foundation is there, and I'm sure that we'll really like this one very soon.

I remember checking out most of the locations from the MSFS 2020 trailer back then, and it pretty much looked the same as far as the scenery was concerned (apart from the clouds maybe). Of course the trailer was taken with all the settings maxed out and the angles very carefully chosen, but it still was the same as in the sim as far as I remember.

This is the Verbier scene referred to in my previous post.

After all the frustrations last night I decided to take one more flight before I changed back to 2020 today.

I started it up with no problems and it downloaded the hotfix and continued on with no problems.  I had been getting an error message before about something was not supported. It didn't come up.

I made a short test flight and it went flawlessly.

So, I guess I'll stick with it for now.  It can only get better from now on.
