we do in form of that MeganeX that many experts are very exited about.

We'll see when it comes out.  What's the price and where's the earphones?

  • Many of your points I actually agree with but some of us here are happy customers of Pimax's Crystal Light.  It's such a good headset that the best I can do after hearing some of these support issues

  • O.k. so the title of the thread is 'Think Twice Before buying a Pimax' and the hopeful alternative is a $1800 headset.🫤 Tell me how this makes since?  I could buy two CL's in case one breaks and still

  • Really can't go wrong with a Quest 3.

The MeganeX will not compete with your Crystal Light, but with the Crystal Super. similar specs, similar price. but much lower weight, about 1/3 !

there are other features that can not be expressed in numbers:

"#MeganeX superlight 8K | just preorded it. I have to say, it really was the most comfortable HMD I've ever worn on my head. The OLED display is a little dark (as we know), but the wearing comfort is still incredibly impressive"

The MeganeX Superlight was announced in 2024 after Panasonic sold Shiftfall to a Tokyo-based parent (Creek & River). It basically builds on the benefits of the MeganeX, delivering a similar lightweight experience, with enhanced visual fidelity.

And another interesting but "only" 4K  device:

I thought we were discussing reasonable alternatives...😶

Unfortunately these days what means "reasonable" can be really stretched... A $1800 VR headset is bloody expensive by any measure, but if it is indeed of high quality and can be used for five years or more, it might be a ok investment at $1/day 😝...

which may include several alternatives, some similarly priced, some more advanced and consequently more expensive. just think twice because there are alternatives.

just like the latest GPUs. there will always be several performance categories, the MeganeX 8K and Pimax Super will be among the highest resolution VR headsets, and not surprisingly be more expensive than the current Pimax Crystal Light. everybody will determine for themselves what is reasonably priced.

If Meta makes a PCVR version of Quest 3 with direct video input, that would be my instant buy. Everything of Q3 is nearly perfect at its price point, the only thing ruins it is that it's streaming only. What a pity.

Really don't know any other headsets would be good replacement for G2.

Personally with VD and AV1 compression I've had an excellent experience but I understand that might not be suitable for  some. There is also the Pico 4 which support a direct video input.

You can do direct HDMI input into a Quest 3 but it requires some tinkering. I personally have never tried it but here's a video that goes more into it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2Wjy35Iaa8

Like I said bad (perceived) support and all, nothing out there right now is beating the Cystal Light for MSFS at it's price point. 😎

I'm extremely happy with the Q3 overall. i think it's remarkable what they've achieved for it's price

I still say, if there was a reverb g2 with quest 3 lenses, maintaining close to the g2 weigh and comfort @ $1000 - @1200 aud, id have bought that in a heartbeat

I'm running 2024 with  a Pimax Crystal Light. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give mine an 11. Absolutely love it in 2020 and 2024.

1 minute into video: use DLSS in 2024 VR. He always used TAA in 2020 VR for clearer G1000 screens. Next up he says to use .dls Swapper and get the latest .dll. It will help. And so forth.

His tips have proven invaluable for me.  So until all the 2024 updates come out from Asobo I'd follow his lead concerning streamlining settings in the sim's current state.  Seeing as 2024 only uses DX12 there's a substantial hit right now using TAA in VR.  Many have said before 'VR FlightsimGuy' to use a tuned DLSS to get the best performance in VR.

I noticed in his video, Raytraced Shadows was OFF in VR settings. In my case, Raytraced Shadow is ON and grayed out - I can't turn it off. Guess it needs to be turned off in 2D settings?

I use DLSS Quality all the time, seems to give me the best quality + performance. I have no problem with G1000 screens - they're as sharp as I would like.

I don't think I could win on a million dollar quiz show to guess whether this G1000 screen is DLSS or TAA. They would have to be side by side for me to know.

But I confess I wear 1.0 dioptre reading glasses when using a computer. My eyes aren't excellent.

Oof disabling RT should help fps for sure especially in VR.
