Is it just me? 2024 won't launch except after midnight

Featured Replies

So nearly 2 weeks in, and in spite of the claims that the servers are now 99.999 percent reliable, MSFS 2024 is still all but unusable for me due to CTD while loading. The strange thing is that I can use it without issue (other than its other known bugs) late at night, usually after midnight (PST). The rest of the day and evening the sim will CTD just before or just after getting to the screen with the start button. I do have the latest 566.14 NVidia drivers installed and specs are in in signature. My community folder is empty and I have no marketplace scenery addons in my library. My download speed is a solid 500 Mbps. Event viewer always points to the msfs2024 exe file as the fault. MSFS 2020 runs without issue.

What confounds me, is that so many here and on YouTube seem to be having successful flights and while many issues are being reported, few are complaining about not being able to load a flight without a CTD.

Just wondering how many others are having this much trouble getting 2024 to launch.

Thanks. I have checked that and it is fine. I can get into fs 2024 without issue late at night. This has been going on for some time now, so the sim does load and I can do multiple flights etc, as long as it is late. Usually I can start to get the sim to load without a CTD sometime between 11pm and midnight my time. Loading times have not been an issue, just the CTDs during "peak hours".

Sounds a bit like Internet streaming rate issues.

I had a screen lock up on Sunday afternoon & in checking my Internet connection speed found it was 144 Mbps.

Later in the day it was 550 Mbps & streaming MSFS 2024 ok.

It can run at up to 870 Mbps, 144 is the bottom & may not be quick enough for streaming.

I agree, Sounds like your isp is throttling your service

If 144mbps was not enough for streaming, then MS/Asobo would be in trouble.

And did you remove everything from your Community folder? And are you also using any add-ons like GSX?

Unfortunately, a lot of add-ons are not compatible with MSFS 2024 right now. They are adding the Safe Mode back to MSFS 2024. But until they add the Safe Mode back to MSFS 2024, make sure your Community folder is empty, and you are not using any add-ons either.

Then if MSFS 2024 runs normally for you for some time, you can gradually add back your add-ons and figure out which add-on is causing you to CTD.

Yes, as per my opening post. I do not own GSX and I have yet to install anything into the community folder.

I find it unlikely that other users competing for internet bandwidth during the daytime, meaning your connection is slower during the daytime, is causing the CTDs. As a software developer myself, that would be one weird bug, and very poor coding by the MSFS team, if MSFS 2024 CTDed on the initial loading screen because some people had a slower connection than others who have a faster connection - I wouldn't rule it out 100%, but I would say it's unlikely, especially because you are saying it happens on the initial loading screen before you see the Start button.

One thing that happens at night is that it's a little cooler at night, which means your computer and GPU are also running cooler at night.  Since you are using NVidia, NVidia has an overlay that shows you your GPU temperature and GPU utilization. Did you check your GPU temperature during the daytime versus nighttime?

You can also monitor your CPU temperature as well during daytime and nighttime.  However, I don't think the NVidia overlay shows you your GPU temperature so you'll need a different application to monitor it.

If it's anything related to servers, ISP throttling, maybe it's worth trying a VPN of some sort. Get routed through some different network paths and see if that solves anything.

Because your issue sounds so crazy specific and weird, I don't think you'll find many with that issue. That is something very specific to something in your setup.

Not being able to play after midnight? That would explain all the gremlins in the game then 😆

Good news! Todays patch to 1.1.10.0 has completely resolved this issue for me. Not a single CTD since it updated, so clearly it was something on their end.
