Does AS give you the option to set the visibility ? I'd like to do some LVO work at 150 meters viz for example.

I don't think so ... but it'd be a really great feature to have.

Interested in Active Sky. I currently have 32gb of ram. Will this be enough while running it as program states it needs 4gb itself, if I'm reading that right.

Thanks

It should be enough.

Yes, you can.

Under the Wx Control tab are three choices:

  1. Live weather (Active or Passive mode)
  2. Historical weather
  3. Custom weather

Custom weather allows you to click on an area on the in-app map and manually add the weather you like either from individual weather parameters or by defining a METAR. Under the individual parameter 'Set surface visibility' you can set by the nearest 1/10th of a statute mile from 0.1 mi (160m) all the way beyond 150.0 mi (241,401m).

Visibility set at 0.1 mi or 160 metres.

I have a general active sky question. As a bounce back and forth between 2020 and 2024, it's the weather effects in 24 I miss. So I am looking at Active Sky.

Is this something I stand a chance of getting in AS? Not exact, but somewhere between 2020 and this would be nice.

Not 4gb by itself, 4gb minimum as a system requirement. ASFS generally runs at about 500MB total working memory average in most of my testing.

Ah brilliant, thank you for that.

I did buy a copy yesterday to try but couldn’t see how to do it, I’ll have to read the manual.

I’ve got my annual low viz validation in the big boy’s sim this week so always good to have a run through at home first.

Although ironically looking at your screen shot it looks like the simulator lights aren’t up to the LVO task, the one time you do actually need bright lights and they’ve been dimmed down ( quite rightly) in the new update.

I seem to remember P3D turned the runway lighting up in low viz

Some tips for finding IMC: Use the search function to look at your current active weather (any type, live, historical, whatever). If you don't want to use actual data or want to just modify existing real data, simply use the lock to aircraft function in map, right click near your aircraft, add custom weather area, edit the METAR to change the vis or use the wizard settings.

Or another easy way is to limit max vis in the visibility settings. Infinite minimums regardless of anything else!

Active Sky was initially made to assist with my IFR training, and still keeps me proficient to this day. I usually search for live weather IMC conditions and make short routes to make it interesting, variable and unpredictable, and also makes it challenging  with new DPs, IAPs in unfamiliar areas, etc.

Thanks for your support. Hope you enjoy it.

Many thanks for that Damian much appreciated.

I own copies of AS for XP and P3D which I’ve used in the past but I’d forgotten how to use it properly as I don’t really use those sim  platforms anymore. I must admit I’m normally a clear skies and  no wind preselect sort of sim pilot so have the weather turned off to make my life easier!, cheating really.

Thank you for your work  developing such a powerful tool.

Can active sky be used as a work around for the MSFS2024 “feature” where it forces historical weather tied to whatever time you have the sim set to?  Ie can I force current live weather even if the time I have the sim set to is not live?
