Most people use the dialogue buttons.

You mean, some people.

Or do you have any veryfiable metrics? 😉

  • 1) You can read back. Most people use the dialog buttons. They are releasing next year a LLM feature. 2) BATC injects its own traffic. I I have it use the FSLTL models and I don't know what other

  • How long has it been since you last used PSXT? I haven't seen a spinning airplane in about a year.

  • I agree, I do enjoy it and will continue to use it when not using ATC!  I especially like seeing the airlines at proper gates.

Frequencies are real-world

No. They are taken from the sim.

And the sim is only correct up to tower. Approach an center frequencies are often wrong.

Have you been able to eliminate the parked fstl a/c scratching tires effects that I find most annoying?

There used to be a download temporary fix but it has since been removed.

What? You mean my use case isn't everyone's use case? 🙂

(fair point)

My mistake, they do seem to match up to the chart frequencies most of the time from what I can tell.

The fix is still on the discord under troubleshooting-faq.

It’s still far from the finished article but certainly BATC is a game changer for me. I’m a sucker for the premium voices and to hear French accented Air France crews, Italian accented ITA or American sounding Delta pilots is very cool indeed.

Some of the vectoring can still be a bit wonky and at places where there is a very long STAR (Dubai is a good example, where in real life you’d be vectored off onto the LOC at some point) the program will often leave you to literally fly all the way to the last waypoint which can be at times tens of track miles. It seems to work best with arrivals where the STAR dumps you onto the end of the LOC as there is less to go wrong.

Leaving aside the idiosyncrasies though, it’s cool to have pretty much bang on instructions for your whole flight from clearance to shut down, although I wish there was a way to select a gate before landing as it’s hard to taxi, clean up, faff about with the menu etc as you’re trying to get off the runway.

Highly recommended. One of the best 30 dollars I spent this year.
For IFR flights it really is unbeatable, I tried from day 1 Sayintentions and from time to time I resubscribe to test the improvements, but I always come back to BATC.
The voice quality is a generation ahead of what Sayintentions offers. I'd say even the free voices (which you can use indefinitely once you make the one-time 29.99 payment) are on par with competing voices.
Once they introduce LLM in January I think they'll be way ahead, especially since VFR control should arrive shortly thereafter.
Unless you fly most of the time VFR (personally I always felt that MSFS ATC does a very good job at VFR control anyway) or intend to use Tour Guide or any of those SI features, my recommendation is to buy BATC.
I use it along with FSTL, I really prefer to see the real traffic and use AIFlow to separate me from the rest of the traffic and put Liveatc in the background. But I tested the BATC traffic and it works very well.

I assume that this "VFR mode" would not require the input of a Simbrief flightplan? If so, that would only leave the Real Weather requirement as a final obstacle for me.

Possibly,  but even when you fly VFR you usually file some sort of plan - at least I did when I did my PPL. I’m presuming that the program would need to have an idea of where you’re flying in order to give you ATC en route.

SimBrief is simplicity itself - you literally type in the departure and arrival airports and select your aircraft type from the drop down list and that’s it. The program will choose all the appropriate waypoints and procedures for you and then you just load it up in the FMC with a single click.

Also it’ll choose runways oriented with the prevailing wind conditions - makes flying with real weather a lot of fun.

It's that last bit that I take issue with. I prefer to fly in calm weather with a specific set of conditions and cloud types. Real weather can bring all kinds of trouble.
