New PC and MSFS 2020 / 2024

I will have to decide whether to trust that Intel's latest BIOS fix (in combination with the previous ones) eliminates the instability issue, protects the CPU and allows the CPU to perform as advertised.

I just got a brand new Intel PC two months ago, and my PC builder said that the BIOS fixes prevent new CPUs from getting damaged via overclocking settings.  I have not given it another thought.. 🙂

Unfortunately, these BIOS updates came too late for many; THERE IS NO FIX, THERE IS AN ATTEMPT TO FIX STABILITY, but the damage was already done. Intel has stated that there is no recall for the i9 14900k and other 13th or 14th-generation CPUs. THE INTEL SAID PEOPLE EXPERIENCING ISSUES "MAY BE ABLE" TO GET A REPLACEMENT. I WENT THROUGH THIS AMBIGUE PROCESS ALREADY.

WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS TOTAL DISINFORMATION!

SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.

I bought an Alienware PC with the exact same processor on a Black Friday deal.  I was worried but too good a price to pass up.

Long story short, no problems so far.  I run all kinds of games, not just MSFS 2024 and it has been great.

All that I can see and that you referenced is correct. Unfortunately, I can't see on their web that Intel didn't actually state that the CPU issue has been fully fixed. They made it clear that the investigation is concluded and there is a microcode update. Unfortunately, this update resulted in various performance decreases of between 2% and 6%. In my opinion, this "fix," with such a performance impact, is not a good fix.

May I again thank you all for your replies.  Your perspectives and information to assist in my decision is really appreciated.  Buying a new PC is a big investment monetarily and also in time if issues arise....

Yes, by all means get an AMD processor and make sure the name ends in X3D. Nothing else will approach those.

I would get an Nvidia GPU and NOT an AMD. A series 4000 Nvidia. At least a 4070. A 4070ti super has 16GB RAM. A 4070 and 4070 ti and 4070super have only 12GB, therefore a 4070tisuper is worth the small extra amount. For bigger bucks a 4080 or 4090 are best of all.

Thank You.  Your words match my technical guys' words to the tee.  Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Dennis D. Müllert

The 5000 series are arriving very soon and people's opinions will change. But I don't want to ever own the very best, the price seems too high.

I thought the same till I got my 4090. In this generation at least, it’s not even close - the 4090 is way faster than the next one, and it’s been an amazing experience using a card that simply crushes any gpu task. I’m spoiled now - all games I just whack settings to 4K ultra and it just works..

I plan to keep my 4090 for a long while.

9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

Depending on when the PC was built, there is a chance it already has the BIOS update that fixes the microcode issues applied. Especially if you ordered from Dell directly. I've received Dell laptops that have newer BIOS versions than are available on the website, so they do seem to include BIOS updates on new machines they build if the update is important enough.
