March 24, 200818 yr I'd just like to start out by saying THANK YOU to Nick N. If it wasn't for his tips posted here in the AVSIM forums and the creation of GEX enhanced, I most definitely would have given up on FSX. I, like a lot of people tried to run FSX with all sliders maxed. I have now found an awesome balance and the sim is better then ever. I just took a flight in the Aerosoft beaver and was amazed!! Not only was the scenery awesome but I also encountered a flock of birds over a river. I recommend that anyone with this sim purchase GEX, FEX, and Ultimate Terrain. It isn't perfect, but it sure is close. Thanks again Nick and all others that have been improving FSX for us. Northern Ontario, Canada has never looked so good in a sim!!!! I can finally go back to flying without the frustration of before.
March 24, 200818 yr I second the motion...Nick N has provided more insight into computer os setup and hd defrag than I've ever had, and the results are great. Thanks for your time Nick.Bob
March 24, 200818 yr All this talk of FSX going great for those that have had issues with it before is encouraging me to give FSX a shot once again. Is there any thread in particular where Nick N spills the beans on FSX and OS setup or is this info spread out across many threads here at AVSIM? If the former, can someone please throw me a link, as my search efforts are not coming up with anything quite as precious.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

Use with caution though... XP does not like to get pushed around very much. Also, I am not crazy about the "defrag by name" as I usually defrag fragemented files only, then again I do not use O & O defrag so I am not sure how well it works.Regards, \Robert Hamlich/
March 24, 200818 yr Well Gary...I'd say they're sort of spread out. A while back I started another hobby called "Saving Nick N. March 24, 200818 yr Can I add my vote of thanks to Nick as well. I went through the instructions not really believing that they would make that much difference. Was I wrong - it improved my performance of FSX to make it a pleasure to fly again.
March 24, 200818 yr Commercial Member >Also, I am not crazy>about the "defrag by name" as I usually defrag fragemented>files only, then again I do not use O & O defrag so I am not>sure how well it works. It makes a ton of sense for FS or other games though because those types of programs often load in data sequentially by file name. If you don't have things physically sorted by name on the HD, the read head has to jump all over the disk grabbing all those files, if they're in order it just reads them in one motion or else with much less movement. March 24, 200818 yr I'll say my thank you right now and get to reading those threads. Thanks! ___________________________I'm just flying for the fun of it.
March 24, 200818 yr I did... you can get it at most major book storeshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/186840.jpgjust a joke... LOLI really appreciate the thanks guys... and it's not necessary by any means. No one should have to fly a poor environment. We should be having fun, not pulling our hair out trying to chase issues and stutters. I really do hope the design of the next FS takes into better account a baseline for performance/visuals and ensure it can be met without jumping through hoops. Optimizing will always be a way to get more however the base product should meet certain criteria out of the box.
