Horrible Performance

What in the world is going on with MSFS 2024. Every time I run MSFS 2024 performance seems to be getting worse. My GPU seems to get locked up at airports and stuck very very little FPS and then 10mins later, FPS goes back up.

Looks like you’ve run into the VRAM bug / issue outlined here:

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/fps-performance-vram-bug/668753/1362

With my GPU (same amount of VRAM as you) I’ve been able to largely avoid the issue by turning off raytraced shadows and turning texture quality from ultra to high.

Wow, what a huge thread... Have they acknowledged the issue?

The dev mode FPS counter tells a different story, you are runnung out of system memory, you have 39GB of RAM filled, but only 32GB available. Peak was even almost 50GB RAM. Seems the 64GB RAM recommendation was reasonable...

I saw that too but my settings are not even at Ultra which is crazy...

Also, FG seems to be broken, when I switch views it acts up and stutters.

What in the earth 32GB RAM "are not reasonable"??? there is an unreasonable memory leak there, this is due mainly to heavy third part liners because all is working well with GA airplanes.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

They recommend 64GB as ideal amount of RAM for MSFS2024. Now you can get crazy about this and swear and shout, it wont change the fact that e.g. I do not see such performance issues with 64GB installed and dev mode overlay of TS clearly shows he is out of RAM. End of the story...

Makes no sense...

Recommended is 32gb....Ideal is 64gb... So with 32gb you should be fine, if not they would not recommend it.

I think there is something going on here like the VRAM issue and or a memory leak as I restarted the sim and everything was great. It's really hit or miss.

I have 64GB arriving today.  I've come to the conclusion that it'll be impossible to run 2024 WITH addons and high settings with less than 32GB ram.  Sure you can turn down settings but that's not acceptable for me.  I wish they had coded it better - but something is eating RAM for breakfast.  I was able to run default and native 2024 stuff okay but my RAM was almost maxed with 32GB.  I'm cautiously optimistic that having 64GB will help.

Pay no attention to the stutters !

That's why something MUST be off, if not they would recommend 64gb...

I agree there is likely an issue with the code.  It was a lot worse though pre patch 2 for me.

What TLOD are you running?

That's the thing, they did.  32 is just for the sim.  They said if you have other stuff running in the background, and possibly things like detailed 3rd party addons like Fenix and PMDG stuff you're gonna need more.  I regularly hit 30GB actively in use all the time between the sim running, Navigraph, and some browser tabs etc.  The in sim FPS tool has shown over 32GB peaks though.  Will be swapping to 64 this weekend with a kit I got for Christmas.  Had hoped to hold out and update to a new CPU and DDR5 since my cpu/mobo/ram is 4-5 years old now (cpu is a 2020 model, rest is from 2019) but that may not happen for a bit and 64GB of slightly tighter timings of the same DDR4 series I've been running cost half what I paid in 2019 for 32GB and it will help me with other stuff as well.

I'm running now all vanilla scenery, no clouds, no AI traffic.  Just their default 737 Max BBJ.  And I loaded at ATL - the scenery is nicer yes, but's it's an average place where many people would tend to fly an airliner from.

I looked around the cockpit once, and my 32GB of RAM was instantly saturated lol.

I guess I'll have to do some more testing and post at their forums.  Posting here won't help honestly.
